Let’s Get Knotty…

Vineyard Vines recently released a new performance shirt to their everyday lineup: the Bowline Polo. A bowline is an ancient and simple knot that, not surprisingly, has a nautical etymology dating back over 300 years.

A bowline knot is known for its versatility, ease of use, reliability, and isn’t limited to seafaring use. It has also become a popular rescue knot for people who have fallen in a hole or are stranded on a cliff.
A Hybrid/Rescue/Utility Polo

What does all of this have to do with a polo shirt, you ask? Vineyard Vines Bowline Polo shares all of the same characteristics with its namesake knot; it is versatile, easy to wear, and unfailingly reliable in any situation. It might even be the perfect gift for the guy who needs to be rescued from their collection of outdated polo’s. Much like the hybrid/rescue/utility club in your golf bag, this shirt can save you in a variety of situations.
Perfect for golf, this is a performance top made from the same materials as the best-selling Vineyard Vines Sankaty Polo (92% polyester, 8% spandex). What makes this shirt different? Fit! It is slightly slimmer and shorter with a more modern silhouette.

The Bowline certainly performed on the golf course; keeping me dry on a humid August day. It also provided ample stretch too. With that being said, I prefer this shirt for its casual and cool off-course styling.

I kept with my usual Large in the Bowline and the shirt fit me better than other Vineyard Vines polo’s I have reviewed. Most notably, the sleeves were slightly slimmer and fell to the mid-bicep–creating the illusion of bigger guns. The Bowline also is shorter and generously cut through the midsection. As a result, it looks best untucked. And that is exactly how I would recommend you wear this shirt!
VV owns the clean classic look. It is also stronger, more durable and holds up well due to being quality materials. They don’t have a bad looking shirt in their selection.
