Ted Baker Golf: The Sweet Spot of Style and Performance

Quintessential British fashion brand, Ted Baker, has hit the sweet spot of style and performance with its new golf collection. Known for its impeccable tailoring, sophisticated details, and quirky sense of humor, Ted Baker is bringing these same fun and stylish qualities to the fairways this fall.

While some people still look at golf as a sport for old guys in flammable plaid pants, the game is now younger, more athletic, and more fashionable than ever before. Golf has been experiencing a style makeover for the past 15 years and as a result, more fashion brands are hitting the links these days.

Many of these brands have dabbled in the world of golf apparel with small capsule collections that have lacked commitment and knowledge of the nuances of the game. Ted Baker, on the other hand, has gone all-in with a robust collection of well-thought-out polos, trousers, shorts, layering pieces, pullovers, waterproofs, belts, headwear, and socks. You’ll even find leather gloves, ball mark repair tools, and umbrellas in Ted’s extensive golf line.

Thanks to the breadth and depth of the collection, Ted has everything you need to build a complete golf wardrobe. And, much like its menswear collections, the brand gives you the option of taking an understated approach with modern takes on classic designs or dialing up your look with bold and confident prints. Either way, you’ll look sharp from the first tee to the 19th hole and beyond as Ted’s effortless designs easily transition from the course to the street.

Ted Baker Golf Polos

At the forefront of Ted Baker’s golf collection is a range of polos that finds the perfect balance between respecting the style traditions of the game and a having healthy irreverence for the status quo. Following the same formula, as it did with its menswear collection, whimsical prints help to make Ted’s range of golf polos unique and daring.

Granted, some hardcore golfers (of which I’d consider myself a member) may find the patterns with golf balls and tees a bit cliché at first, but the tasteful execution will win even the most die-hard players over. In fact, the Farway, with a mini golf tee print, has become my favorite polo in the collection. The small geometric print is so subtle; no one will know that it is comprised of golf tees unless they are well within your personal space. Available in three unique and colorful hues—coral, green, and lemon—the Farway will help you stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons this fall.

Other favorites in the collection include the Fore, Offset, Course, and Golfed Polos. The Fore, with a sporty vibe, luxurious mouline finish, and striped trim looks as good on the course as it does at the café. For a more classic look, check out the Offset. This polo is a modern throwback to the Golden Era of the game. The clean fit, solid color, and tipping on the collar and cuffs, can find a home in any decade. Then again, if you are looking to amp up your look, the Course Polo, with a large floral print, and Golfed Polo with a cool palm tree print, should be on your list. Both make a strong statement and will have you dreaming of mai tais and trade winds.

While most golf apparel brands offer a plethora of polyester, Ted Baker is taking a different approach by blending natural and performance fabrics. Most of the shirts in the brand’s golf collection are constructed from a lightweight cotton/elastane blend. With all the talk of technical fabrics over the last decade, it is easy to forget the performance benefits of cotton. It is a highly breathable fabric, and when blended with elastane, it stretches and moves with your swing. Skeptical about the performance of cotton? Cooler autumn temperatures give you the perfect chance to put it to the test.

In typical Ted Baker fashion, each of the polos is finished with luxurious details. A stylish print on the inner yoke, thin three-button placket with trim, metal snaps, and rubber ‘Ted Baker Golf’ branding help to separate Ted’s shirts from many of the others you’ll find in your pro shop. Also, don’t miss the well-hidden pocket on the left sleeve. It makes a convenient storage spot for a ball marker.

Ted Baker Golf Trousers

I’m a dew sweeper. At the first hint of daylight, the ball is in the air. As a result, cotton trousers have been off limits for years. Technical pants provide the water repellency, stretch, and breathability to take on the wet conditions at dawn. On the flip side, this means trading the soft, natural feel of cotton for dry ankles. Ted Baker, though, has managed to combine the comfort of cotton with the protection and playability of a technical pant. Its Golftro Chino features a lyocell/cotton/elastane blend that is water repellent, flexible and feels great.

The Golftro is also finished with a wide range of high fashion and golf-specific details. The front and rear pockets are finished with a ribbon trim, while the interior waistband and pockets are lined with a complementary print. The same print used on the waistband is repeated on the interior cuffs. Go ahead and roll the cuffs to add an extra pop to your look.

The number of golf-specific features built into the Golftro is quite impressive. A small front pocket is perfect for storing tees and Velcro straps above the right rear pocket is a handy spot for attaching a glove. To keep you looking your best, a gripper tape waistband ensures your shirt stays tucked. One surprising feature is the microfiber cloth attached to the inside of the front right pocket. I fully expected to remove this after a few holes, but it soon became a convenient way to clean a golf ball upon arriving at the green.

Ted Baker’s Many Layers

Fall is a season of transitions. Being prepared for anything Mother Nature has up her sleeve is one of the keys to success. The good news is Ted Baker’s range of layering pieces is ready for any condition. The cotton blend Armstro sweater fuses a classic v-neck design with an elegantly executed golf tee pattern.

Joining the Armstro is the Par Midlayer and Lag Gillet. With funnel neck designs, a brushed micro fleece interior, and striped ribbed trims, both are layering essentials for the season. When those cool fall showers roll in, the Swanson and Squares Jackets are must-haves. The waterproof Swanson offers a clean and understated look. This is a refreshing change of pace from the aggressive color blocked design in golf rainwear these days. One of the most popular outerwear styles in menswear is the bomber jacket. The Squares brings this latest trend to the fairways. Sure, you may buy the Squares for the course, but you’ll end up wearing it everywhere.

Fit & Sizing

Understanding Ted Baker’s fit and sizing is important when dialing in your look. Here is what you need to know to nail the fit and sizing the first time around.

Ted Baker uses numbers (1-7) for sizes. 1=extra small; 2=small; 3=medium; 4=large; 5=extra large; 6=XXL; and 7=XXXL. Got it? Good.

The fits of the pieces in Ted Baker’s golf collection are slim, but not tight. That being said, I find that they run small, so size up. For example, I usually wear a medium in shirts. In Ted Baker, a large (or size 4) is perfect for me. Also, the sizing of the pieces in Ted’s golf collection is consistent with those in the brand’s menswear collection. Those of you who wear Ted off the course, just stick with your normal Ted size and you’ll be golden.
