Matt Kuchar signs shoe deal with Skechers

Golf’s most eligible shoe free agent, Matt Kuchar, is now off the market after getting hitched with Skechers Performance Division as part of a multi-year deal.

I’m glad to see Kuch has finally settled on a shoe. Tracking his footwear choices over the last year has been a full time job. Over the past several months, Kuchar has been seen sporting ECCO BIOMs, Ashworth’s Cardiff ADCs, Adidas Golf’s new gripmore shoes and finally Skechers new GOgolf model, which he began wearing at The Players Championship. I can only imagine how many he has sitting in his garage that never made it to the course.

As part of the deal, Kuchar and Skechers will collaborate on a signature shoe that will be part of the brand’s GOgolf line. We’ll also see Kuch in GOgolf TV, print, digital and outdoor ads.

I am going to reserve judgment on Kuchar’s new shoe endeavor with Skechers until I see the kicks in person. Kuch is one of my favorite players on Tour, but let’s face it, he isn’t exactly a player any of us should turn to for fashion inspiration. With the pleated khakis, oversized sleeves and mismatched hats and belts, Kuch’s style can best be described as ‘soccer-dad-comfortable’. I’m afraid the thick, pillowy soles that I see in the pictures here just feed into this style. I just can’t see myself saying, “Give me the Kuchars in every color.” At least not yet.
