Jamie Donaldson’s U.S. Open apparel script — I’d wear it, Part 2

Leave it to a Welshman wearing a Swedish brand to teach us Americans how to wear red, white and blue.

J.Lindeberg nailed it with the red, white and blue colorways in its SS14 Collection and what better place to showcase them than at Pinehurst. If you are looking to bring some red, white and blue to the course this weekend in honor of the U.S. Open, or in a few weeks for the 4th of July, check out Jamie Donaldson’s look, especially in the first round today.

Donaldson’s script from J.Lindeberg Golf is totally on point for the U.S. Open. It is clean, crisp and cool and features a great mix of athletic and neo-classic looks.

The Mathew polo (Day 1), Dylan polo (Day 3), and Tour Tech polo (Day 4) offer a vintage vibe with modern touches like moisture-wicking fabrics, contemporary fits, and contrasting stripes on the plackets. The Tour Tech polo (Day 4) is also a modern throwback with classic good looks, a technical fabric and a modern cut.

For Friday’s round, Donaldson will sport the Christer polo. Color blocking on the shoulders is very much on trend these days and the Christer polo combines this design with a bold stripe across the chest and J.Lindeberg’s signature JL bridge logo across the back.

Also take note of Donaldson’s pants. The first three days he is scripted to wear J.Lindeberg’s Gusten pants. These are my favorite pants from JL’s SS14 Collection. They are constructed from a lightweight, water repellant, 4-way stretch fabric and possess a nice taper through the lower part of the leg. What really separates the Gustens from a style standpoint is the tuxedo tape detail in the side seams. This really adds a touch of elegance to a highly technical pair of pants that is perfect for a major championship.

There are a lot of great major championship apparel scripts, but it is rare that I see one where I would wear every piece in the script. Prior to Augusta, I wrote about how Donaldson’s script was the one I’d most like to wear. All I can say is “ditto” for his U.S. Open script. His apparel selections for Pinehurst are even better than his selections for the Masters.

My only concern is that he may melt in the black-on-black look on Sunday, but black is his go-to color for final rounds. Maybe he’ll substitute white pants or a white shirt depending on the conditions.
