One of the biggest stories in golf footwear this year has been the Nike Air Max 1 G. At a time when athleisure and streetwear styles are dominating fairway fashions, this iconic silhouette has made an easy transition from the streets to the course.
For this post, we teamed up with our friends at Golfposer.com (a leading men’s golf apparel & footwear e-commerce site) to get an up-close look at the Nike Air Max 1 golf shoes.
Air Max 1 G
Golf shoes were once a thing of pure functionality, before brands like Nike Golf entered the domain. Now, these sports footwear giants are creating styles which allow you to enjoy both fashion and functionality in one fell swoop. For several years now, Nike Golf have been reworking some of their most iconic sneaker styles into effective golf shoes; the Roshe, Flyknit Racer and even the Air Jordan franchise have all been major successes. Fans of these previous crossovers will be pleased to learn that the Nike Air Max 1 has now received the same “G” treatment.
The Iconic Heel Bubble
The “Nike Air Max 1 G” is a spikeless golf shoe with all the original features of the Nike Air Max line. By combining golf footwear technology into this iconic silhouette, Nike fans can now enjoy wearing their favourite sneaker all around the golf course for the first time.
The Air Max 1 golf shoe mimics the same upper styling that we know and love from the sneaker line, inclusive of the “Heel Bubble”. This means you can enjoy the same style and comfort you would get from a regular Air Max 1 shoe, but with added functionality for golfers.
Avid Nike Golf fans might remember an attempt to create an Air Max inspired golf shoe some years ago. However, without the iconic air bubble in the heel, the design lacked the original’s refinement and true signature aesthetic. This time around, the Air Max 1 air bubble is a key feature which provides both style and functionality. As you might expect, the air bubble enhances comfort without adding any weight to the shoe; combining with the ultra-lightweight Phylon midsole for full length heel-to-toe cushioning in every step.
Of course, one of the most important factors for golfers will be the grip provided. The good news is that the sole pattern has been inspired by Nike’s tried and tested “Integrated Traction” technology. This ensures that you have grip and stability throughout your swing, no matter the weather. Furthermore, with this being a durable spikeless rubber outsole, you can enjoy comfort all day long both on and off the golf course without feeling like you’re wearing golf shoes.
All Day Comfort
That’s one of the biggest perks of the Nike Air Max 1 G; it’s a golf shoe that could so easily be mistaken for a regular shoe. Sneakerheads are known for wearing out their Air Max shoes all day, every day – and this golfing version should be no different. Wear them to the course, wear them to the office, wear them around town. For added peace of mind, you’ll also get a one-year waterproof warranty which is becoming standard issue for many golf shoes.
Choose Your Colourway
True to form, Nike has not shied away from making a bold statement with these golf shoes. The main line up will initially feature key colours such as the clean white and gum combination, the effortlessly stylish black and gum option or the truly iconic white and “university red” option. More recently, we have seen other options including a “pure platinum” grey, white with “game royal” blue and a white with “hot punch” coral – perfect for the Summer months.
This year has also been filled with limited edition styles that you never know if you should wear or put on display (if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on them). The first special edition NRG offering featured an eye-catching “Green Grass” design with a three dimensional grass-like upper, while a “Sunday Payout” style with dollar bills melted through the outsole was also highly collectible. Both of these styles were created for the Waste Management Phoenix Open 2019 and were part of a limited release which kicked off a full calendar year of special edition NRG launches for the other four major tournaments of the 2019 season.
Many are calling this Nike’s best golf shoe to date and, considering their current offering of spiked and spikeless shoes, this is quite a statement. Whichever colour(s) you choose, the Nike Air Max 1 G are well worthy of investment for 2019 and beyond.
