Well, this is a first at GolfThreads.
I met Traci O’Connor and Michelle DelRocco from Roaming Dhabi Designs at the PGA Merchandise Show a few weeks ago and they let me know that I’ve been ignoring a very important part of the golf fashion industry — the ladies. I did a count of the posts that GolfThreads has done on ladies golf apparel and quickly arrived at, well, zero. Guilty as charged!
One reason I started this blog was to discover companies that are taking fun, innovative and stylish approaches to golf apparel, and Roaming Dhabi Designs certainly fits in this category. Guys, if this doesn’t convince you to keep reading, then you should know that Paige MacKenzie has been sporting dresses from Roaming Dhabi Designs on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive. Based on the chatter on discussion forums, there seems to be a large percentage of the male golfing population that cares about Paige’s apparel choices, so read on. (Yes, I’m talking to you GolfWRX members.)
Keep in mind this isn’t a review. As I mentioned to Traci and Michelle, I don’t wear women’s golf apparel — no matter what my playing partners say when I walk up to the first tee in a pair of pink Ian Poulter tartan pants. However, if there are any females out there who would like to review ladies golf apparel here at GolfThreads, leave a comment below or contact me via Twitter, Facebook or at firstname.lastname@example.org. The pay is terrible, but the enjoyment is priceless.
Traci O’Connor created Roaming Dhabi Designs after she moved to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, started playing golf and discovered that there were very limited clothing options for women, especially dresses. She desired dresses and separates that were easy to move in, elegant and pretty on the course, in addition to easily transitioning to post round drinks with friends or running errands.
One of the unique features of her designs is that the tights are not part of the dresses and skirts, but an item that is sold separately, allowing women to choose the tight color, size and length that best suits their lifestyle. The tights are a layering component to her designs and are available in a 5” or 27” inseam and eight colors. By selling the tights separately, the dresses and separates can easily transition to the next part of ladies’ day and evening while giving women the ability to customize their particular dress or separate. Wear the turbulence grey skirt with raspberry tights underneath?
The initial collection consisted of five fitted dresses, short and long tights available in five colors. With the introduction of the Roaming Dhabi Designs USA website last year, the collection expanded to include two relaxed fitted dresses, two skirts, diamond back accented short sleeve polo and long sleeve v-neck polo in additional colors. All of the collection is moisture wicking, anti-microbial, machine wash and tumble dry. Available in US sizes XS, S, M and L.
Roaming Dhabi Designs introduced their most recent collection, Velocity, at the 2014 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. Velocity includes an updated Cove Dress in white with contrasting side panels, Diamond back polo accented in contrast colors, Long sleeve V-neck Polo with contrasting back vertical stripes and finishing with a white Saadiyat zipper skirt with lilac and oasis blue zippers. Taking advantage of the beautiful snow landscape of Breckenridge, Colorado (where Roaming Dhabi Designs is currently headquartered), the Velocity collection “Swings into Spring” and is a reminder that the 2014 golf season is right around the corner.
Roaming Dhabi Designs is also a corporate sponsor of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals with 5% of net proceeds from the brand’s website going to support Champions Fore Girls Golf, and that’s a cause we should all support.
Roaming Dhabi Designs is available in select pro shops in the USA and Abu Dhabi, as well as on the web at www.RoamingDhabiDesigns.com. Also, you can give the brand a follow on Twitter (@RoamingDhabi) or Facebook.
