PGA Championship Fashion Dimes & Crimes: Day 1

Sweater weather for Cashmere Keith, Viktor’s kicks switch, FootJoy and Todd Snyder’s hot drop, Adam’s nightmare, and more. Tour Editor Michael Ruuska breaks down the best and worst looks from Thursday at Oak Hill

Fashion Dimes

Keith Mitchell (Sid Mashburn & FootJoy)

It is only fitting to kick off “Dimes” with Cashmere Keith.

Viktor Hovland (J.Lindeberg & Puma Golf)

If Keith Mitchell was a layup, Viktor Hovland is sure to be as controversial as taking off for a dunk from the foul line on a breakaway. I know I will get some slack for this one, but I LOVE the sunset faded argyle “JL” design on this polo. Eureka! I’ve always complained about Viktor’s Nike shoes. The Puma IGNITE Articulate Golf Shoes are a much better fit. These seem to be popular shoes with many guys on Tour. I wonder if we will hear something official on Hovland and Puma Golf soon??

Keeping with kicks…how about these FJ x Todd Snyder Premiere Series Fields?! They might be my favorite FootJoy collaboration yet! And that is saying something. These just dropped and I would hurry up and get them before you have to pay a ridiculous amount on the secondary market. Bravo, Nico. Your Original Penguin kit paired perfectly with the pebble grain and patent leather on these shoes.

Keegan Bradley (TravisMathew & Jordan Brand)

There is something very nostalgic about a vintage TravisMathew chest stripe. It reminds me of when I first fell in love with TM. That was 2011, the same year Keegan won the PGA Championship!

Want to elevate your sweater game? Pick up a cashmere shawl sweater! Mission accomplished.

As soon as the Eastside Inspire Authentic Cement Sweatshirt is back in stock in an XL, I am going to order it! Be authentic and inspire the people around you.

Cameron Smith (Original Penguin & FootJoy)

I saw some beautiful hoodies on the course Thursday, but the stylish details on Cam’s Original Penguin Heritage Golf Sweater made this one my choice for “Dimes.” The color block design and piping at the raglan sleeves really made this sweater stand out.

This fit could’ve been a “Dime” in any decade and will forever be. Timeless. Classic.

Kurt Kitayama (Chervo & Boxto)

It feels like an oxymoron to say that I love the summer blues. But I do! Kurt’s trousers instantly cheer me up.

Dustin Johnson (Extracurricular & FootJoy)

I miss Dustin Johnson. He has the coolest walk in all of golf. And nobody does monochromatic better than DJ. He is badass.

Fashion Crimes

Adam Scott

Adam Scott might be the most perplexing golfer in the world when it comes to his fashion choices. This outfit looks like it was inspired by Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street. It doesn’t make sense for such a handsome man with a buttery-smooth swing.

Speaking of butter. What was with all the yellow? Nike made these guys look like a stick of margarine.

Callum Tarren

And the white belt faux pas award goes to….

Ryan Fox

For some reason, Ryan Fox made me irrationally angry every time I saw him.

Steve Holmes

Wait a minute, Steve! Don’t you have a third-period high school Chemistry class you are supposed to be teaching?!

Gary Woodland

I dig an argyle print. But there is such a thing as too much argyle. Case in point; Gary Woodland’s matching hat and shirt make him look like his mom dressed him for the first day of Mr. Holmes’ Chemistry class.

  1. I remember when Adam Scott was wearing Aquascutum, then Burberry. Both brands were much more suited to him. There are lots of brands that would work for him better than Uniglo. I would go elegant brands rather than athletic looks for him. I once did a Pinterest board of outfits for Phil (who is dead to me now) of Brooks Brothers performance clothes. I aways thought Phil looked his best when he was wearing Ryder Cup uniforms rather than his usual brown pinstripe pants.

  2. Lynnes comments above are fantastic. Also, excellent writeup and what Hov and Big Tone are wearing, wow pushing envelope
