Who is wearing what at Carnoustie
The Open Championship returns to Carnasty Carnoustie this week. You know, that devilish course on the east coast of Scotland where Jean van de Velde had an epic meltdown and Sergio Garcia claimed he was playing against ghosts.
The unpredictable conditions give golf apparel brands the opportunity to showcase key pieces and colors from their Autumn/Winter Collections. Wondering what you’ll be wearing this Fall? Just check out the apparel scripts for the game’s top players below. While you are at, drop a comment below and let us know which script is your favorite.
Listed by world ranking, Dustin Johnson, once again, has the honor.
Dustin Johnson (Adidas Golf)
Navy blue done four ways; color blocking, rugby stripes, engineered stripes and a heathered texture. DJ will layer up with Adidas’ new water-resistant Go-To Adapt jacket with a fleece lining. Expect some great monochromatic looks from Dustin over the four days.
Favorite look: Friday
Justin Thomas (Polo Ralph Lauren)
The famous tie and cardigan return for a second straight year–this time paired with proper Scottish tartans on Sunday. Technical corduroys on Friday. Rich, dark navy blues, burgundies, and forest greens offer a cool, autumnal vibe.
Favorite look: Sunday
Jon Rahm (Adidas Golf)
A stealthy palette of various shades of grey will have Rahm blending in with the angry Scottish sky. New Bold 3-Stripes Polo on Thursday uses Adidas’ logo to create a strong striped design. Signature red on Sunday. Like DJ, Rahm will layer up with Adidas’ Go-To Adapt jacket.
Favorite look: Thursday
Jordan Spieth (Under Armour)
“The best offense is a good defense” is the theme for Jordan Spieth. New layering pieces include everything from insulated jackets to water-resistant pullovers. A familiar palette grounded in navy blue with pops of summer teals and oranges.
Favorite look: Sunday
Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)
A showcase of new looks from Puma’s AW’18 and Throwback Collections. Jacquard and camo print polos. Bomber and Track Jackets. Modern 6-Pocket pants. Blues with signature orange on Sunday.
Favorite look: Thursday
Sergio Garcia (Adidas Golf)
The mix of greys and blues seems to symbolize the cloudy skies meeting the cool waters of the North Sea at Carnoustie. Like DJ and Rahm, Sergio will slip on the Go-To Adapt jacket when the weather turns ugly.
Favorite Look: Friday
Louis Oosthiuzen (Ping Apparel)
I can’t get enough purple in my wardrobe so I’m all in on Louis’ script. These four polos highlight the best of Ping’s SS’18 Collection with heathered solids, engineered stripes, and color-blocked designs.
Branden Grace (Peter Millar)
Elegant and modern looks as technical vests are layered over natural Italian Merino and Cashmere sweaters. The blues and purples create stylish combinations.
Favorite look: Saturday
Cameron Smith (Original Penguin)
Fun and colorful. Engineered stripes on Friday and paisley print on Sunday. Vibrant teals and purples pop against the neutral color palette. Is that a blade-like collar I see on Friday’s polo?
Favorite look: Sunday
Si Woo Kim (Peter Millar)
Stylish, functional, and warm. Neutral bottoms allow the bright, early fall colors of the layering pieces to shine. New Gale Force Softshell vest is layered over the new Birchmont Stretch Melange Ribbed Quarter-Zip on Sunday.
Favorite look: Sunday
Kelly Kraft (Greyson Clothiers)
Sophistication with an edge. These are the most unique looks you will see at Carnoustie and I want all of them. Jewel tone pants offer the perfect transition from Summer to Fall. Gothic ‘G’ sweater makes a strong statement out of the gate. Camo cardigan puts a modern spin on a classic layering piece.
The Peter Millar for Both Branden and Si are easily in a class of their own compared to any of the others. Classic, modern, wonderful looks.
Really like the Peter Millar scripts. The vests and sweaters in complementary colors are sharp. Much better approach than the polos layered over skin tight base layers.
Its interesting they keep showing Rickie’s script with those spikeless walking shoes yet he keeps going back to his spikes.
Peter Millar knocked it out of the park!
What kind of materials are the Greyson pieces made of? I’m trying to work my clothes back to more natural fibers.
Hey Nick,
Thanks for the question. Greyson has a mix of technical and cotton blend pieces. The Croton and Apache polos are fabricated from a Pima Cotton blend. Both are great shirts and very comfortable. The Greyson sweaters are either Cotton, Merino wool, or Cashmere. Most of the bottoms are technical, but there is a Corded Trouser that is a Cotton blend.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Greg
