The Masters: What to Wear, Eat, and Drink

Whether you’ll be attending the first major golf tournament of 2018 in Augusta, or hosting/attending a Masters party, we’ve curated a list of ideas on what to wear and what to serve to put yourself on top of the leaderboard among family and friends.

The Outfits

Guys, you’ll want to look the part without going overboard in green and yellow. Here are a few suggestions that feel modern, casual and put-together.

The Outfits: Guys, you’ll want to look the part without going overboard in green and yellow. Here are a few suggestions that feel modern, casual and put-together. Criquet has a few ways you can go with Masters-inspired Players shirts made with Pima cotton, and a little stretch for comfort. The fit is classic, not slim or boxy, with traditional detailing. If T-shirts are more your choice, Swing Juice has its creative Major’s collection of tees with different sayings that fit this hallowed golf occasion. For bottoms we choose Bonobos Highland Lightweight golf shorts that come in seven colorways and two lengths - the Gator green to wear with lighter colored, stripe polos, or the regular Highland golf short in heathered pink to carry the azalea theme. Stone and khaki go with the bright yellow t-shirt and darker tops. Add a preppy Smathers & Branson needlepoint golf belt - the official Masters design is sold on site at Augusta during the tournament, but pop up for re-sale on the internet if you are persistent. “P” is for pimento, a nod to the sandwich made famous by Augusta National. (Recipe in Entertaining below) The very popular Puma golf cap is a snapback style with Flexfit Tech and a moisture-wicking sweatband. G/FORE released its Limited Edition Major Gallivanter shoe last week, featuring a premium waterproof leather and classic styling. Great for on-course or tournament spectator - throw on a pair of sneakers or loafers if doing the party option. Of course, any casual button-down shirt with rolled-up sleeves, shorts, and a belt is a quintessential spring party look. Ladies, we picked a classic, solid white dress by Hedge that will look stellar against a backdrop of pink azaleas and green grass. This Quimby dress has side pockets for a golf ball or lip gloss storage. The stretch linen fabric and loose silhouette will keep you looking hostess-ready all day. The dress also comes in rose and navy. Pull in some Augusta color with light pink colored shoes by Born, or pick a pair of white sneakers/golf shoes from your closet and add fun pink kilties. We found these on Etsy. Having a simple green cardigan sweater handy accents the outfit and gives you a light layer if needed. You can spend $600 for a Burberry, or $15 for this one from H&M. You can never go wrong with a woven hat - for sun protection and style. Nice but inexpensive options, like the one shown from Banana Republic, can be made Masters-ready by adding a sash from golf-themed fabric or green ribbon. Even easier, borrow a golf necktie from your dad’s or husband’s closet and tie it around. The Accessories: G/FORE also released a limited edition clover green and yellow tipped golf glove in time for the Masters. Mix in a cocktail shaker, pour over ice and garnish with Masters cocktail flags. Pimento Cheese sandwiches. (Makes 2) Ingredients: 4 oz sharp yellow cheddar cheese, finely grated (1 1/2 cups) Half 3 oz jar pimentos, drained and finely chopped (1/4 cup) 2 Tbls mayonnaise 1/2 tsp pepper sauce 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup watercress sprigs, stems discarded Mash cheese, pimento, mayonnaise, and hot pepper sauce in a small bowl with a fork until well combed. Season with salt to taste. Cover and chill for 1 hour to allow flavors to blend. Spread pimento cheese mix evenly on bread - white bread if you want authentic Augusta style. Azalea Cocktail

Azalea Cocktail served in mason jars. (Makes one serving)

Ingredients:
2 parts gin
1 parts lime or lemon juice
1 parts pineapple juice, a splash of grenadine.

Mix in a cocktail shaker, pour over ice and garnish with Masters cocktail flags.

Pimento Cheese Sandwich

Pimento Cheese Sandwiches. (Makes 2)

Ingredients:
4 oz sharp yellow cheddar cheese, finely grated (1 1/2 cups)
Half 3 oz jar pimentos, drained and finely chopped (1/4 cup)
2 Tbls mayonnaise
1/2 tsp pepper sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup watercress sprigs, stems discarded

Mash cheese, pimento, mayonnaise, and hot pepper sauce in a small bowl with a fork until well combined. Season with salt to taste. Cover and chill for 1 hour to allow flavors to blend. Spread pimento cheese mix evenly on bread – white bread if you want authentic Augusta style. Top with watercress sprigs. Cut into triangles and serve.
