Open Championship Fashion Dimes & Crimes: Days 3 & 4

The final two rounds of The Open Championship are in the books. Stylish Stenson was holding the Claret Jug at the end, Phil was still having hat issues, and we were reminded why wearing a costume to a golf tournament just isn’t a good idea. Here’s GolfThreads final edition of Fashion Dimes & Crimes from Royal Troon.

Henrik Stenson
By now you know my feelings on polos over base layers, but if you are going to go that route, take a lesson from Stenson’s winning look. The sleeves on the polo should be as slim as the base layer, and the base layer should match the sleeves on the shirt. This will eliminate contrast and create a smooth look from the shoulder to the wrist.

Adam Scott (Uniqlo)
I really like the taper on Adam Scott’s pants and the tailoring is on point, too.

Dustin Johnson (Adidas Golf)
DJ is one of the best at wearing monochromatic looks. His key to success? Keeping everything slim.

Kevin Na (Elord)
Then again, if you are looking to take a monochromatic look to the next level, pop a bit of color on the collar of the shirt underneath a layering piece. Even better, work in a colorful geometric print on the collar.

David Feherty
It would have been easy to put a kilt-wearing David Feherty on the Crimes list because no one really wants to see him cruising the links like this, but I have to give him props for a couple of reasons. First, he paid up on a bet. And second, if you are going to rock a kilt, you better own the look, and he owned it.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello (Oakley)
First, it was Zach Johnson on Friday, and then it was Rafa on Saturday in an Oakley sweater with a superb fit. I didn’t even know Oakley made golf sweaters, but I want one.

Tyrrell Hatton (J.Lindeberg)

Sophistication with an edge. This urban camo puffer jacket even looks good with white pants. Who would’ve known?

Zach Johnson (Oakley)
If there was a list of best beanie wearers, ZJ would be at the top.

Charl Schwartzel (Kjus)
Then again, if you are looking for a winter cap with a retro feel, check out Schwartzel’s bobble hat.

Rory McIlroy (Nike Golf)
All gray kits look much more interesting when you work in different shades like Rory did.

Danny Willett (Callaway Europe Apparel)
Through all the gloomy weather, Willett reminded us that it is indeed summer in this margarita colored sweater and shoes to match.

Rabbits
Be vewy, vewy quiet…

Sergio Garcia
…because Sergio is hunting wabbits in his safety orange vest and camo sleeves.

Dumbledore & Friends
Now we know who’s responsible for Phil’s short game wizardry.

Phil Mickelson
Speaking of which, Phil accessorized his hat with another binder clip for the final round. This time, it was black, which was only slightly better than Friday’s white clip. The guy has made over $80 million on the course in his career, and he can’t find a hat that fits.

Plus Four(s) Beers
In the words of Jamie Foxx, we’ll blame these getups on the “a a a a a alcohol.”

Andrew “Beef” Johnston
“Beef” is a character and his carefree sloppy vibe is all part of his shtick, but can someone at least get him a belt in a color other than white.
