First Look: Bunker Mentality’s SS’16 Collection Has Mod Ties

Bunker Mentality will be announcing plans for its Spring/Summer 2016 Collection in just a few days, but the guys in Nottingham, England hooked GolfThreads up with a sneak peek. In true Bunker Mentality fashion, it has once again succeeded at pushing the envelope of golf fashion with fresh and edgy designs while respecting the traditions and etiquette of the game. The label’s SS’16 Collection is bold, brash, brilliant and totally unapologetic.

The two showcase pieces in the collection are a paisley print polo and a polo with thick and daring vertical stripes.

“These are two very different technical shirts compared to anything that currently is on the fairways and again, I think they show that we are focused on leading golf fashion in terms of style,” said Bunker Mentality’s Creative Director, Robert Hart.

Paisley was one of the hottest prints in the 60s and 80s thanks to the British Mod culture. Let’s face it; if you were alive in the 80s, you probably had at least one paisley tie in your closet. If you were really on trend, that paisley tie was likely pink or purple.

Over the last few years, paisley has experienced a renaissance of sorts in the world of men’s fashion, and I’m psyched to see that it is finding a home on the fairways next spring with Bunker Mentality.

Bunker Mentality’s take on the paisley polo combines a vintage vibe with contemporary details. The sleek fit, short collar, three-button placket, narrow sleeves and the brand’s high tech Cmax fabric are distinctly modern, while the banded cuffs and all-over paisley pattern taps into the retro Mod culture.

The other showcase polo in the collection also has strong Mod ties with its bold vertical stripes and extended five-button placket. Mod culture was a super-cool British sub-culture, characterized by smooth, sophisticated looks and styles in its menswear. Polo shirts with small neat collars and various patterns, including the vertical stripe, were a big part of the movement. Again, Bunker Mentality has brought this vintage look up to date with a slimmer silhouette and a shorter collar.

Can’t wait for spring? Yeah, me neither. I’ve already reserved a spot for these two shirts in my closet for 2016. I’ll keep you posted on the launch date of Bunker Mentality’s SS’16 Collection. It looks like it will be the brand’s best yet.

Many thanks to Bunker Mentality for selecting GolfThreads to be one of the two sites to receive an exclusive preview of its SS’16 Collection. Cheers!
