Polo Golf x Justin Thomas Collection for the U.S. Open

Justin Thomas and Polo Golf collaborate on an apparel collection for the U.S. Open with new fabrics, tailored fits, and a patriotic camo print.

Since turning professional, Justin Thomas has been one of the best-dressed players on Tour. His modern takes on classic styles prove there is more to golf fashion in 2019 than streetwear-inspired designs. Last year, JT captured his second Threadie and was the runner-up on our best-dressed list behind fellow Ralph Lauren brand ambassador Billy Horschel.

You may remember Horschel collaborating with the Ralph Lauren team to create a capsule collection, which he wore at last year’s PGA Championship. Now, it is Thomas’ turn to take a turn as golfer-turned-fashion-designer with the Polo Golf x Justin Thomas Collection. Thomas will debut the new capsule collection on the shores of Monterey Bay this week for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

One look at the collection and it is easy to see Thomas’ influence. Traditional solids and stripes are blended with edgy camos to create modern, yet sophisticated looks. The patriotic red, white, and blue color palette not only plays to the theme of the U.S. Open but also ties to Ralph Lauren’s strong American fashion heritage.

“Fashion has always been something I’ve been intrigued about, so to be a part of the design process for this collaboration was really fun. Being able to partner with an iconic company like Ralph Lauren, I know we have created some great pieces that not only are very stylish but are perfect for my demographic.”

Thomas also wanted a range of apparel that was comfortable and fit well (who doesn’t?). As a result, Ralph Lauren is introducing new fits and fabrics in the collection. The polos are constructed of a cotton/poly micro pique that combines the best of both worlds. Aesthetically, it feeds into the classic looks of years gone by, while possessing the moisture-wicking performance expected in the modern game. Sweaters incorporate a COOLMAX blend that helps to regulate body temperature. This is particularly important as Pebble Beach’s cool and foggy mornings give way to warm days.

Traditionally, Polo Golf shirts have offered a generous fit. Thomas’ collection, though, brings a more contemporary tailored silhouette to the course. Open sleeves give him better movement and range of motion when ripping those 300+ yard drives. Likewise, the pants in the collection include a slim fit, tapered leg, and elastic in the back of the waistband for more stretch and comfort.

The showcase piece in the collection is a pair of Camo Star printed trousers. Thomas will pair the tonal blue camo print dotted with random red and white stars with a white three-button placket polo on Friday. A smart move, as the clean white polo allows all the attention to fall on the flashy trousers. (Side note: What do we have to do to get Ralph Lauren to outfit the 2020 U.S. Ryder Cup Team in these trousers? Seriously.)

Speaking of the Ryder Cup, the Iconic Flag Sweater looks like it was plucked directly from a Team U.S.A. scripting book. Other highlights of Justin Thomas’ collection include the Bear Jersey Hoodie, Camo Star Pullover, and a Double Knit Technical Vest.

Each piece also features Justin Thomas’ logo, as well as a unique hang tag displaying a special QR code linking to the RalphLauren.com Golf Landing Page.

In addition to outfitting Thomas and Horschel, Ralph Lauren will serve as the Official Outfitter of the USGA & the U.S. Open.  In that role, the brand will dress all USGA Committee members, staff and more than 5,000 volunteers in timeless Polo Golf apparel.
