The BMW PGA Championship is the flagship event on The European Tour and the folks at Lyle & Scott are treating it as such by scripting their two sponsored players, 2014 South African Open Champion Morten Madsen and Englishman Seve Benson, for the four days at Wentworth Club.
Lyle & Scott is one of those brands that I’m really connecting with these days. I like how the brand is pulling inspiration from three distinct decades by putting a modern spin on classic patterns of the game, like tartan and argyle, while also injecting a bold 1980s vibe into its collections.

For example, take a look at the Tartan Yoke polo and Tartan sweaters (sorry, jumpers) Benson and Madsen are scripted to wear on Friday and Saturday respectively. The oversized Tartan patterns used in those pieces scream 80s retro, while the colors actually reflect the blue and yellow lines of a Lyle & Scott Tartan sweater from that decade. The iconic style of the Tartan Yoke polo also pulls inspiration from the 1950s and the blocked shoulders and contemporary fit is sure to appeal to the modern, fashion conscious golfer.

This fusion of vintage 1950s styling and contemporary design is also reflected in the simple, yet fashionable Contrast Pocket polo that Benson will sport on Saturday and the Fine Stripe polo Madsen will don on Friday.
The strong 80s influence makes another appearance through Benson’s bold Turnberry polo on Sunday. Call me crazy, but I have visions of Greg Norman raising the Claret Jug in 1986 when I look at this shirt.

Both players will open the tournament on Thursday in head-to-toe black ensembles as part of the ‘all black day’ to pay respects to Ian McGregor, the caddie of European Tour player Alastair Forsyth, who passed away of a heart attack last week at the Madeira Golf Open.
Lyle & Scott will also be running a competition across all of its social media channels this week to win one of the outfits, so follow them on Twitter (@LyleandScott_GT), on Instagram (@lyle_and_scott) and Facebook.
