Over the past few years, FootJoy has established itself as the King of Golf Footwear Collabs. The brand has teamed up with the likes of Todd Snyder, Garrett Leight, and Harris Tweed on limited-edition drops of its Premiere Series and Traditions shoes that coincide with the game’s biggest tournaments. While all of these brought a ton of heat to the fairways, FootJoy’s collaboration with West Coast street-fashion icon Jon Buscemi for last year’s Players Championship stood above the rest for me. I still regret not smashing the ‘Add to Cart’ button on those buttery Tarlows and Packards with the hits of gold accents.
Well, good news! FootJoy and Buscemi are giving me a mulligan of sorts as the two have partnered on another sick collab for this year’s event at TPC Sawgrass. Touted as “The Players Shoe for 2023,” Buscemi is bringing his luxurious touches and elevated sense of style to FJ’s Premiere Series Field and Wilcox models. The Field’s clean looks has made it an instant favorite for many players, such as Max Homa, and the Wilcox, with a classic brogue design, is a new addition to the Premiere Series family and gaining traction on Tour with players such as Cameron Young.
Both models feature a speckled midsole, gold Pulsar Low Profile Cleats, and gold accents around the heel, which are a nod to The Players Championship trophy.
“The Field and Wilcox offer two totally different canvases in terms of their esthetics, so I was really up for the challenge creating something unique for each one,” said Jon Buscemi. “I loved getting the opportunity to add to the energy and vibe of the current Premiere Series collection.”
The FJ by Jon Buscemi limited editions bring together the top-shelf performance of the Premiere Series and the sophisticated style of one of the most influential creators of luxury street style. Buscemi, who had stints at Oliver Peoples and DC Shoes before co-founding Gourmet and starting the Buscemi brand, is no stranger to using gold accents to elevate the look of a shoe. Over the years, he has designed and crafted premium leather sneakers with 18K gold hardware that have sold for as much as $132,000.
“Jon’s passion for both golf and exquisite design made him a natural choice for FootJoy to collaborate with,” said Chris Tobias, Vice President, FJ Footwear. “This collaboration personifies a luxurious approach to golf performance crafted for our most discerning golfer.”
The exclusive FJ by Jon Buscemi editions will debut on the feet of numerous FJ players competing in The Players Championship beginning March 9, including FJ Ambassadors Justin Thomas, Max Homa, and Will Zalatoris. They will also be available to the rest of us not competing at TPC Sawgrass on FootJoy.com that same day. I recommend setting an alarm as these will sell out quickly.
