This Week In Golf Fashion: Non-Designated Edition

Chris Kirk is forever young, Eric Cole’s fashion juxtaposition, Robby Shelton stays tucked-in with H&B, and Kelly Kraft’s friendly shirt. GolfThreads gives you all the latest style news from the PGA Tour’s first “non-designated” event while trying to make sense of the LIV Golf uniform concept.

Chris Kirk turned back the clock and won his fifth PGA Tour event (his first since he won at the Colonial in 2015). He did it in style, wearing the appropriately named, Forever Young polo by TravisMathew. As a result of his win, Kirk will get to “enjoy the walk” around Augusta National come April in his TRUE Lux Pro.

Eric Cole is a 34-year-old rookie and gained attention for his Sunday battle with Chris Kirk as well as his apparel choices. Cole’s Primo Ankle Band Joggers and FootJoy Golf Sneakers were an interesting fashion juxtaposition. Wear what you want, but own what you wear. Eric owned it.

Prior to beginning his formal relationship with Holderness & Bourne Robby Shelton used to buy H&B shirts at Shoal Creek Club in Alabama where he practices and plays.

The Holderness & Bourne fit is perfect for me, and the shirt stays tucked in when I’m playing. For some weird reason, I was having trouble finding a brand where the shirts would stay tucked. Pretty important! The collar is a bonus too. I’m playing a lot of golf and their collars always stay sharp throughout the year and give me a more confident polished look.

Crossed arrows are a symbol of friendship. It represents the crossing of paths. The coral colorway of the Greyson Crossed Arrow Polo is one of my favorite polos of 2023. I hope to cross paths with this shirt in the near future.

The Vineyard Vines Topo Golf Camo Palmero Polo is fun and cool. Like, literally, cool. It is made with brrrº fabric for immediate and continuous cooling, active wicking, and rapid drying. I can’t wait to try it out when the weather warms up!

Greg and I had an opportunity to hang with the guys from Live Forever Golf at the PGA Merchandise Show this year. We were impressed! Greg summed it up best; they are like an east coast version of Linksoul. If you dig looking good, then check them out. Their Spring ’23 line is set to arrive in early March and we have a review lined up already.

Kevin Chappell (Radmor & TRUE Linkswear)

Kevin Chappell looks rad in the Radmor Colby Varsity Stripe Polo, eh? The chest stripe and matching band collar give a casual and sporty vibe that is reminiscent of a vintage Toronto Maple Leafs sweater my buddy used to wear. These TRUE FS-01 are my favorite shoes right now. Not just golf shoes, but shoes! I wear these babies everywhere. Ridiculously comfortable.

From Monday qualifier to a fourth-place finish at the Honda Classic, Ryan Gerard had it going on. The Stitch Golf Canal Stripe Polo had him looking the part as well as playing the part of a man who belongs.

Look closely at the J.Lindeberg Alfred Polo. It is a patchwork print featuring an abstract JL logo. Made from a mesh jacquard fabric, this is lightweight, breathable, and unassumingly bold.

LIV Golf Invitational Mayakoba

I have found myself intrigued with what LIV Golf will be doing for uniforms. Full disclosure, I hate the idea of uniforms in golf. It takes away from the individuality of the game.

Right now, the apparel on LIV Golf is all over the place. Some guys who have joined are still under contract. Others have had their apparel agreements terminated or mutually chose to move on. I fully expect once all the attorneys are done negotiating we will have full uniforms for each team. Who knows what will happen going forward but here is what I have noticed so far (and some speculation).

Bryson DeChambeau and his entire Crushers team were wearing Stitch Golf. I recently heard that Bryson is a big fan of Stitch apparel, so this isn’t a surprise. I am guessing that the Crushers continue wearing Stitch and DeChambeau wears them at this season’s first major.

Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez wore their customary footwear but showed up in Extracurricular apparel. I imagine Peter Uihlein soon joins them. Patrick Reed could be a wild card here.

HyFlyers GC

Phil Mickelson and his HyFlyers teammates were wearing TravisMathew gear. It looks like Heater Series Polos and Beck shorts for the gang.

Bubba Watson and Talor Gooch were decked out in Linksoul apparel and Jordan footwear while newcomer, Thomas Pieters was still wearing head-to-toe Nike. Harold Varner III rocked his customary Jordan Brand.

Majesticks GC & Stinger GC

The Majesticks (Poulter & Stenson) and Stinger’s (Oosthuizen) have jumped on board with Redvanly as their outfitter. Redvanly seems to have an agreement as an apparel provider with LIV Golf from what I have gathered.

    1. I am not surprised you own that polo. Let’s make it happen this year. Pinehills?

  1. Thanks for including the LIV outfits, don’t agree with the league but still interested in what they are wearing!
    Really love the Extracurricular line!

    1. Thanks for reading, Jonathan. Glad to know I am not the only person alive who is interested in what apparel brands are being worn by LIV Golf teams. And I agree on Extracurricular; great stuff!
