U.S. Open Fashion Dimes and Crimes: Day 1

Fashion Recap of Day 1 at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot

FootJoy’s new classics, Jordan Spieth’s old kicks, and how to do red, white, and blue right (and wrong). Tour Editor Michael Ruuska breaks down the best and worst looks from Day 1 at Winged Foot.

Fashion Dimes

Webb Simpson (FootJoy)

I am loving the new FootJoy kicks that Webb teased out on social media. A modern saddle? Sign me up! Overall this kit had great flow from head-to-toe, yo!

Jordan Spieth (Under Armour)

Jordan Spieth makes the Dimes section based solely on his soles….he wore a vintage version of the Under Armour Drive One golf shoes. Maybe he was hoping to recapture some of the magic from Chambers Bay circa 2015?

Dustin Johnson (Adidas Golf)

I’ve heard some people be critical of the Adidas scripting. I am digging all of it. As we make the transition to fall golf, this shirt is the perfect addition to your (and my) wardrobe.

Jon Rahm (Adidas Golf)

We know blue is hot right now and so is Jon Rahm (my pick to win). This is the same Adidas Ultimate365 Space Dye Striped Polo that DJ was wearing, except in Light Blue. Apparently, my love for this shirt is infinite.

Danny Willett (Descente)

I don’t think I have ever written a Dimes and Crimes without including Danny Willett in the Dimes. Homie brings it day in and day out, but especially for Majors. I should just cut and paste because I write the same thing every time…I need to get my hands on a Descente shirt. I am convinced I would play better wearing one!

Henrik Stenson (Hugo Boss & Ecco)

(Spoiler alert). We saw some bad red, white, and blue combinations that were crime-worthy (ahem….Nike). Henrik Stenson shows us how to do it right.

Erik van Rooyen (Greyson Clothiers & Ecco)

Or, you could try this. Warning: only for those with big-league confidence and swagger.

Jason Kokrak (William Murray Golf & FootJoy)

The Keep ‘Em Coming Polo by William Murray Golf brings a little levity to the challenge of Winged Foot Golf Club. The zig-zag navy and yellow pattern on this shirt is actually an array of froth-covered pint glasses, frozen mugs and bottles of ale. I love beer.

Clean. Crisp. Classy. Chill.

Fashion Crimes

Nike

I think Nike Golf was trying to dominate golf memes with their kits. It was like Nike decided to have their very own costume party.

These would be examples of the bad red, white, and blue that I referenced earlier.

  1. Nike looked real bad. Jday and Tommy just ugly. Spieth had too many muted tones. I cant believe DJ pulled it off but he did look good.
