Fashion Dimes

Tommy Fleetwood (Nike Golf)

The baseball style shirt. The rope hat. The hair and beard. Tommy Fleetwood just looked cooler than everyone else on Saturday. He is a definite contender for my next edition of G.W.A. (Golfers With Attitude).

Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)

Speaking of cool and G.W.A., Rickie Fowler looked fantastic in the Puma Local Pro Golf Polo. I just got my hands on the maroon version of this shirt and am sold on the FUSIONYARN fabric. It will undoubtedly be my go-to polo for the Fall.

Rory McIlroy & Chris Wood (Nike Golf)

We saw quite a few versions of maroon at The Open Championship. So much so that I thought of giving you the five golfers who wore it best and call them my Maroon 5. I opted not to do that because I would have been compelled to make lots of goofy song puns and Adam Levine references. Regardless, Nike did a great job showcasing one of Autumn’s hottest colors, Burgundy, by pairing it with their Light Bone trousers. Rory and Chris Wood would have made my Maroon 5 list and each looked equally impressive in this color combination. “Wait”, dare I say they have the “Moves Like Jagger”?

Satoshi Kodaira (Admiral)

I do not know much about the sportswear brand, Admiral, but I do know in the Navy, Admiral is the top-dog and highest rank you can earn. It is comparable to a General in the U.S. Army! Satoshi Kodaira is quickly rising up the ranks and becoming a top-dog in golf fashion. The subtle tropical floral design on this polo is awesome. The lime green accent on the placket makes this shirt a five-star BOSS.

Justin Rose (Adidas Golf)

Quite a day of golf by Justin Rose on Saturday. He looked the part too. I have written before that the adiPure line is perfect for him and I thought the green polo and matching 1/2 zip layering shirt complimented the backdrop of Carnoustie perfectly.

Danny Willett (Descente)

I am convinced that if I wear the same Descente golf shirts as Danny Willett my game will improve. Seriously! I love this polo and the black geometrical lines on the back only add to the technical and modern feel.

Fashion Crimes

Pat Perez

There is a lot going on here. Pairing a white belt with shirt and pants that are both primary colors is a big-time fashion crime. Book ’em, Danno!

Julian Suri

When I look at Julian Suri in his golf attire, all I can think of is the Spike Lee character, Mars Blackmon, from the old Nike commercials with Michael Jordan.

Louis Oosthuizen

Is Louis wearing Tony Finau’s pants? I think he may be. Let’s bring those up an inch or so, Louis.

Marc Leishman

Marc would NOT have made my Maroon 5 list. The disparity between his wine-colored polo and white trousers is just too much, let alone wearing a white base layer underneath! Oy vey!

  1. Jim, I also really liked Zach Johnson’s kit Saturday. I’m glad he didn’t wear a white belt with it like Patrick Reed. As you know, a good belt can be the difference between Dimes & Crimes.
