GolfThreads x TRENDYGOLF Selects continues to provide curated collections of the best in golf fashion, and with temperatures in Northern California cracking the 80* mark for the first time this year, I have a serious case of spring fever.
There is no doubt that summer is just around the corner, and a plethora of stylish shorts are set to hit the fairways. I’m talking about bold prints, preppy seersuckers, vibrant hues, and amphibious shorts that can effortlessly move from the turf to the surf. Here’s a look at my 12 favorites for the season and ideas of how to rock them in style. Check them out at TRENDYGOLF.
Prints & Patterns
From big and bold to small and subtle, prints and patterns are the best way to up your shorts game this summer.

RLX 4-Way Stretch Aquatic Shorts
Remember when Billy Horschel nearly broke Twitter when he busted out those octopus shorts at the U.S. Open a few years ago? Well, consider these the 2.0 version, and Ralph Lauren has added turtles, sea stars, shells, and coral to the mix to create a loud, yet tasteful print. How much do I like these shorts? I just bought them! I couldn’t resist.
Wear it with the RLX Solid Airflow Polo in Diplomat Blue and RLX Web Belt in Royal.
Greyson Arrow Print Short
Greyson is making my favorite pants right now, so I can’t wait to try the brand’s shorts. The small crossed arrow print creates a unique diamond pattern and brings an understated personality to the course. Throw in a ton of tech features like antimicrobial, quick-dry, moisture-wicking fabric and you have a pair of shorts that you’ll want to wear every time you hit the course.
Wear it with the Greyson Katonah Polo in Caribbean Blue and Royal Albartross Balzo Belt in Navy.
Bonobos Golf Highland Short Palm Spray
Great fitting bottoms are at the foundation of what Bonobos is all about so you can bet the brand’s shorts are on point. The Highland Short in a Palm Spray print is a quality addition to any golfer’s wardrobe, but especially the player who wants to push his comfort zone without getting on the crazy train.
Wear it with the Bonobos M-Flex Flatiron Polo in Heather Jet Ski and G/FORE Glove in Tangerine.
Classics
The classics never go out of style; they just get modern reboots.
Orlebar Brown Dane II Cotton Seersucker Shorts
Seersucker is the quintessential summer fabric, and the Dane II from Orlebar Brown will take you from the course to a backyard cookout in style. High tech polyesters have nothing on a good ol’ fashioned seersucker. The fabric is woven in such a way that the threads bunch together, raising the fabric from the skin and allowing air to circulate and heat to escape.
Wear it with the Orlebar Brown Morton Tailored Pique Polo in White and Jones Utility Series Mesh Snapback Cap in Navy.
Lacoste Golf Check Bermuda Short Navy Blue/Cobalt
This Bermuda Short from Lacoste with navy and cobalt blue check could easily find a home in any era, but the tailored fit and polyester/elastane fabric provide stretch and performance for the modern game.
Wear it with the Lacoste Jersey Mercerized Polo in Navy and J.Lindeberg Chapper Elastic Braid Belt in Black.
G/FORE Club Stretch Short Shark Skin
Proving that wardrobe essentials don’t have to be boring, G/FORE’s Club Stretch Short fits into the category of not-so-basic basics. The fit is on point, the cotton fabric travels from the course to the street with ease, and the hint of stretch gives you the range of motion you need to crouch down and read those tough left-to-right putts. What I really like about this short is the fact you can leave your belt at home thanks to the contrast waistband.
Wear it with the G/FORE Circle G’s Hat in Shark Skin and G/FORE Tuxedo Gallivanter Shoe in Onyx.
Colors
Wearing bright colors below the waist always has a powerful impact. Here are three colorful pairs of shorts to amp up your look.
J.Lindeberg Somle Light Poly Short
I have a few pairs of J.Lindeberg’s Somle shorts and I think they are the best value in the game. They are lightweight, water repellent, and available in a spectrum of vibrant colors for the season (pink, aqua, yellow, mint, blue, etc.). Oh, and the slim fit is super clean.
Wear it with the J.Lindeberg Johan Slim TX Torque Polo in Navy and J.Lindeberg Brayden Braided Cotton Belt in Navy.
Dunning Heathered Golf Short Beach Glass
Forget the highlighter hues from a few years ago. Muted pastels are the biggest color trend in men’s fashion these days and this dusty mint green that Dunning calls Beach Glass is one of my favorite colors of the season. Besides, Dunning’s bottoms are often called the best in the game and that isn’t some marketing slogan. The four-way stretch provides performance and comfort and the classic fit appeals to a wide range of body types. You can’t go wrong with these.
Wear it with the Dunning Jacquard Stripe Polo in Slate Grey and G/FORE Tuxedo Gallivanter Shoe in Onyx.
TravisMathew Hefner Short Brilliant Blue
What I like about this Brilliant Blue colorway on TravisMathew’s Hefner Short is that it is so un-TravisMathew. The brand typically plays in a very neutral color palette of grays, blacks, and blues, but this color is one of the more energetic ones we have seen from the SoCal company.
Wear it with the Travis Mathew Van Polo in Heather Light Grey on the course or the TravisMathew RED Gough T-shirt in Heather Griffin off the course.
Hybrids
Play 18 holes, jump in the pool and then play 18 more—all without changing your shorts. That’s the idea behind these hybrids. They look like golf shorts, but they feel and act like your favorite pair of board shorts.
Linksoul Boardwalker Short
I bought a pair of Linksoul’s Boardwalker Shorts last year and I basically lived in them all summer. I think the only time I took them off was to wash them. They are that good. I really didn’t think Linksoul could improve on the Boardwalker this year, but the new colors like Lagoon Blue, Brick Red, and Army Green take this short to the next level. I’ll be adding at least a few more pairs of these to my drawer this summer.
Wear it with the Linksoul Peacemaker T-Shirt in Navy and Quarter Zip Cotton Blend Windbreaker in Navy.
Polo Ralph Lauren Links to Beach Short
Our friends at TRENDYGOLF called Ralph Lauren’s Links to Beach Short “maybe [their] number one favorite of the whole season.” That’s high praise coming from a team that sees more than a few shorts pass by their desks. In my opinion, this half-golf-short half-swim-trunk is the greatest mashup since Jay-Z and The Verve dropped ‘Bittersweet Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’
Wear it with the RLX Luke Micro Poly Jacquard Polo in White and the RLX Charlie Cap in French Navy Diamond Deco.
Puma Hybrid Short
Puma always pushes the boundaries with unique and modern designs and this is certainly the case with their Hybrid Short. The digital print offers a sporty look that can easily transition from the course to the pool.
Wear it with the Puma Tailored Double Pocket Polo in Peacoat Heather and the Puma Ignite Sport Disc Shoe.
Greg, you knocked it out. Love that you showed it with a shirt, hat or belt too to pair it with. Some really great shorts. The Puma, Greyson and Lacost subtle patterned short are my favorites. Great collection you put together.
Thanks, Jim! Really appreciate it. Putting together these curated collections is a ton of fun. Of course, having a great inventory of products from TrendyGolf makes it fairly easy.
My regular $.02
Love the Grayson crossed arrow print shorts (subtly grab your attention). Awesome! The waistband on the G/FORE Club shorts is fantastic (great call pairing them with the G/FORE hat and Gallivanter shoes–smoking). The tag on the Travis Mathew Hefner shorts waistband is upside down 😉 (I am a stickler for details). Typically I am not a Puma “guy” but love what they are doing this year. That double pocket polo and those shorts are something I would definitely wear, on and off the course (which is a pre-requisite for any golf apparel I buy). Finally, I am with you Greg, the Linksoul Boardwalker shorts are THE shorts for summer. Whether I am by my pool, at the beach or taking my wife and kids out for dinner; chances are I will be wearing them. Great stuff. Keep on keepin’ on.
Michael,
Glad I got a few selections in there that speak to you. Agree. The Linksoul Boardwalkers are the real deal. Great to see them in some fresh colors this year. Maybe TravisMathew should hire you for quality assurance.
