Cantlay ditches the dial, Hovland pops the pink, uncovering the OG Jordan Golf Athlete, Wyndham’s super-terrific-excellent-awesome year (and belt), and more. Sit back and enjoy this King-sized edition of TWIGF from Bay Hill.
Patrick Cantlay (B.Draddy & adidas Golf)
I will be honest; I am not even certain that Patrick Cantlay is still wearing B.Draddy. Who cares. He is not exactly someone who is going to move the needle anyhow. What I can tell you is that he has made the old shoe switcheroo! Cantlay certainly seems like the kind of guy who prefers predictability in his life and therefore it was significant that he stopped wearing his FootJoy DryJoy Boas. At Bay Hill, he laced up a pair of adidas 360Tour 24s. I always considered Patrick Cantlay a Boa OG. He ditched his shoelaces for a Boa dial at the Memorial Tournament in 2019 (beating Adam Scott by two strokes for his second PGA Tour win) and has worn a similar version of that shoe ever since. Until last week….
Jason Day (Malbon Golf & PAYNTR Golf)
In other front-page footwear news: Jason Day was spotted wearing PAYNTR X Tour Proto RS Golf shoes. Now we have learned that Day has taken equity ownership in the brand and will be creating a new collection of golf shoes called the X1 Proto. The collection will combine a tech classic look with PAYNTR Golf’s advanced technology and comfort features. Day’s involvement goes beyond endorsement as he’s actively participating in the design process. As part of the development process, he is wear testing shoes throughout the 2024 golf season. Look for Day’s new collection to drop this Fall.
Denny McCarthy
Speaking of complaints, I would like to chat with Denny’s tailor. These trousers are no bueno and bordering on offensive. At first glance, I thought they were rain pants. They are not.
Keegan Bradley (Flag & Anthem & Jordan Brand)
I have become a fan of Flag & Anthem. Their golf line is called MadeFlex and I would argue that it is the best deal in town. For under $60, you can get a high-quality performance polo that looks fantastic and won’t break the bank. They also make a long-sleeved performance button-up that I am obsessed with. If you get a chance, check out the Flag & Anthem MadeFlex Icon Performance Shirts. It is the ultimate everyday shirt for the modern active man (and again a great price point at under $70).
If you’ve ever wondered about Keegan Bradley’s Jordan golf shoes, read this cool interview with him from Hypebeast, Meet Keegan Bradley: The Original Jordan Golf Athlete. Really fun read.
Justin Thomas (Greyson Clothiers & FootJoy)
This fit from JT was noteworthy because it shows the diversity and evolution of Greyson Clothiers. These trousers are less EVR and more Cashmere Keith. They are not on the website yet, but if these are a sign of things to come from Greyson, they couldn’t have picked a better tournament to roll them out. Mr. Palmer would’ve been proud.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout (Fairway & Greene & FootJoy)
When Christiaan Bezuidenhout steers clear of the white belt, he is one of the best dressed in the game. Need proof? Here you go…
Wyndham Clark (Municipal & FootJoy)
It has been quite a year for Wyndham Clark, eh? He won the U.S. Open at LACC, earned his second Threadie, and had a great feature on season two of Full Swing. Kudos on all of those accomplishments AND for showing us that a brown belt is no longer pedestrian. The belt gives depth to this outfit and creates a classically rich look. I love it!
Will Zalatoris (FootJoy)
It is so great to have Will Zalatoris back and competing at a high level. He’s such an exciting young golfer and a fantastic ambassador for FootJoy apparel. FJ nailed this micro floral print polo. I cannot wait to see Will and Wyndham in the FJ by Jon Buscemi Premiere Series at The Players later this week. This will likely be the most sought-after collab of the year.
Viktor Hovland (J.Lindeberg & Puma Golf)
If the above FootJoy is good floral, THIS is bad floral. Too much! Especially with all these dang logos. I did enjoy the pop of color Hovland brought to Bay Hill this weekend with some of his other kits (see below). They had an early Rickie Fowler vibe; however, the bold fits just don’t seem natural on Viktor. I am sitting here trying to come up with someone who might look better in J.Lindeberg…the first person to come to mind is Jake Knapp.
Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)
Each year, I eagerly anticipate The PUMA x Arnold Palmer Collection. It celebrates Mr. Palmer’s massive impact on the game of golf, as well as captures his legendary style. With his grace, style, and humility; Rickie Fowler is the perfect torchbearer to carry on The King’s legacy.
Zippered Plackets
This week we saw both Xander Schauffele (Descente) and Austin Eckroat (Michael Kors) wear polos with zippered plackets. Are we seeing a new trend? If so, are you a yay or nay? Thumbs down from this guy.
I am thumbs up on the zippered plackets. Change of pace and looks clean, not gimmicky. I noticed it on the Descente shirt and thought, gotta find that for my husband.
