Vineyard Vines: Hope Springs Eternal

There is something about Vineyard Vines that just makes me irrationally happy which is more than I can say about early spring weather in New England. I always feel like it will be warmer and dryer than it is and undoubtedly my fantasy of walking the course in shorts and a polo becomes just that, a FANTASY!

Shep Murray, who co-founded Vineyard Vines with his brother, Ian once said that the idea of Vineyard Vines was “to help people bring the good life to work with them. How do you tell people that you love sailing or golf or the Kentucky Derby? How do you tell people that instead of the office you would rather be in a place with palm trees?”

THIS! This is exactly why I love Vineyard Vines. Especially this time of year. Of course, I would rather be golfing on a cloudless 80-degree day, but those days are few and far between around here in March and April. So, when I need to remind myself that Hope Springs Eternal, I pick out an outfit from Vineyard Vines and even though it might only be 50 degrees and cloudy, I feel like I am golfing in a place with palm trees.

Each year I pick out a ‘fit from the Vineyard Vines Golf Collection that I can also wear on the course and also to my sister’s house on Easter (full disclosure we are a pretty casual family). Here is my 2025 outfit:

Palmero Performance Polo

Where to start was a no-brainer. Last summer I wrote that the Palmero Polo was my new favorite golf shirt. After unexpectedly deciding to golf a second day on a weekend getaway this past July and not having another shirt packed, I threw this baby back on again (don’t judge) for day number two, and man did it hold up. It was a hot stretch and trust me the odor-resistant properties worked and were aided by the brrr° cooling technology. I’ve also become more cognizant of clothing with sun protection and this polo has a UPF 50 rating (that’s the gold standard you should be looking for). Finally, it just fits right–not too baggy, not too tight–and the reinforced collar stand and hidden button keep you looking proper. The Breton Stripe Palmero Performance Polo was the first item I added to my cart.

Sankaty Quarter-Zip

The unpredictability of spring weather calls for layers. Multiple layers usually. Performance quarter-zips are a versatile year-round mid-layer that can be easily dressed up over a polo or kept casual with a t-shirt for your weekend errand. The Striped Sankaty Quarter-Zip offered the spring golf vibe I was looking for and is lightweight enough to wear on a cooler summer evening.

Soft Shell Performance Vest

The Mariner Soft Shell Performance Vest is the perfect layer to top it all off and I love how the Club Blue version of this vest pulled it all together without being too overpowering. I have worn this a few times already and the name “Mariner” is fitting. It is wind and water-resistant and offers just enough lightweight warmth and stretch to make this your jacket to wear on the coast or the course.

Performance 5-Pocket Pant

Vineyard Vines must’ve updated the On-The-Go Performance 5-Pocket Pant because these are the best-fitting trousers I have ever worn from them. They come in a slightly more tapered fit but still offer all the stretch and comfort you’d expect from a pair of performance trousers. These slacks are made from a cotton canvas blend that has a naturally soft hand feel. They act like athleisure wear pants but don’t look like them. Of all the items that I received from my order, the 5-Pocket Pant was my absolute favorite. In fact, I was told that they are incredibly flattering (blush).

Accessories

Finally, what fun would it be if I didn’t add a few accessories? These are like the stocking stuffers at Christmas; often overlooked but sometimes the most used. The Leather Whale Dot Golf Glove reminds me of my usual Titleist golf glove but with a little more pizzaz. It is made from high-quality sheepskin leather and offers a removable whale dot ball marker. Never underestimate the value of the right belt on an outfit. The wrong one can kill your vibe. Adding this Heritage Bungee Belt complemented the outfit beautifully. Note: I found these belts to run incredibly large–size down! Lastly, protect that dome with this breathable and stylish VV patch rope hat.
