PGA Championship Fashion Dimes and Crimes: Day 1

The weather was hot and the fashion was mediocre during Day 1 at the PGA Championship, but that didn’t stop GolfThreads’ from dropping a few Fashion Dimes and Crimes on the field.

Jamie Lovemark
Probably my favorite look of the day. The white shirt and light aqua pants combo was perfect for a sweltering day. The gray belt blended nicely and picked up the gray stripe on the shirt.

Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)
Tonal graphic print on the shirt with a tonal logo on the hat. Refined, yet modern.

Rory McIlroy (Nike Golf)
This will be Rory’s best look of the week (and it is looking like it will be a short week for Rors). The saturated teal color is a trendy one for fall. Add this to your wardrobe.

Dustin Johnson (Adidas Golf)
#WhatHeatWave. 92 degrees in the shade and DJ steps out in all black. Playing mind games with the rest of the field, or just being a total badass? Or, both?

Justin Thomas (Polo Ralph Lauren)
When the accents on your shirt match the botanical print on your pants…

Danny Willett (Callaway Europe Apparel)
Simple, clean, and well tailored never goes out of style. When in doubt, copy Willett’s looks.

Luke Donald (RLX Ralph Lauren)
Ditto for Luke Donald.

Danny Lee (Devereux)
Very clean. Perfect color combo for a hot day. Really like the chest stripes with a tonal print. Great belt, too.

James Hahn (Oakley)
A great way to punch up a pair of flat khaki trousers is with a color blocked shirt with a little texture and a matching belt.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello (Oakley)
Rafa continues to impress with great fits, and he also seems to know how to use a hit of color.

Phil Mickelson
Love the vibrant color of the shirt. We don’t get that from Phil very often, but he may want to look for a better performance fabric on those custom shirts. While Rory and Jason Day looked fresh in those high-tech knit fabrics with ventilation, Phil looked like he had a sprinkler go off in his shirt.

Yuta Ikeda
It is usually a light colored belt on dark pants that creates too much contrast, but this time, it is the opposite. Ikeda’s black shoes and belt are way too heavy for those aqua pants.

Adam Scott
Is it hypocritical to like Rory’s blade collar shirts, but not be down with Adam Scott’s minimalist collar? Sure, but Rory’s shirts look like a modern take on the polo collar while Scott’s look like a Henley (and boring ones at that). I still don’t know how Adam is allowed to tee it up in these.

Bubba Watson
Cringe! Bubba can mess up anything in the fashion arena. One camo piece is plenty.

Thorbjorn Olesen (Nike Golf)
There can be too much of a good thing, and the monochromatic aqua green look is just that. Less is more, Thorbjorn.
