Keith Mitchell exchanges the cashmere for stars and stripes, Vineyard Vines brings the brrr to summer, Denny McCarthy digs into the Ben Sherman archives, the Prince of Pastels shines again, and more.
C.T. Pan (FootJoy Boa)
C.T. thinks my tractor is sexy! Sorry. Could not resist. I think those FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA are sexy. Pan’s entire kit is dialed in! Speaking of “dialed in,” did you know that FootJoy has a Carbon Triple BOA shoe?! Now that is some sexy technology.
Michael Thorbjornsen (adidas Golf)
Adidas signed PGA Tour University Ranking winner, Michael Thorbjornsen to its 3-Stripe roster last month. Joining Ludvig Åberg and Nick Dunlap, adidas Golf has an impressive stable of golfers under the age of 25 who should be sitting atop leaderboards for years to come.
Seamus Power (TravisMathew & FootJoy)
Seamus Power gave a clinic about how to match your TravisMathew polo with your TM belt. Well done. Well done, indeed.
Keith Mitchell (Sid Mashburn & FootJoy)
Kieth Mitchell got himself a haircut and a new belt, apparently. I have become accustomed to seeing him go sans belt, but the Smathers & Branson Stars and Stripes Belt was very appropriate on July 4th.
Thorbjørn Olesen (Greyson Clothiers & FootJoy)
Last week Olesen and Greyson made their partnership official. Good move for both parties. I recently had a back-and-forth with Matt Wallace about who he thinks are the best-dressed golfers. Thorbjørn was in his top three.
Camilo Villegas (J.Lindeberg & Nike Golf)
Camilo is just popping his collar because he can. When was the last time you saw Villegas show up to an event in something other than a monochromatic fit? Outside of the occasional layering piece, I think he’s been fully monochromatic since the 2020 season.
Jimmy Stanger (johnnie-O & FootJoy)
For the past few months, I have been toying with the idea of doing an article about UPF protection on golf apparel. My research has been slow and difficult at times. Some brands have surprised me with their lack of commitment to adding any UPF properties to their clothing. Others, like my friends at johnnie-O have been very devoted to providing the highest level of UPF protection (50) to their apparel and even made it easy for you to find when shopping on their website. Click on the UPF Shop to see the entire johnnie-O collection. And yes, this Astrid Striped Jersey Performance Polo is UPF 50.
Jordan Spieth (Under Armour)
Jordan Spieth has really stepped up his sartorial skills over the past year. He is wearing prints and colors that we never would’ve seen in the past and I commend him for mixing things up (and not just wearing blue). In other news, has anyone tried the new UA StealthForm Uncrushable Hat? I had the opportunity to test it out and it is as advertised: lightweight, comfortable (literally feels like you are wearing nothing at all), breathable, and snaps back into shape no matter how you smash or fold it. My only advice would be to size up. The low-profile design made me wish I had gone with the L/XL.
Denny McCarthy (Ben Sherman & PAYNTR Golf)
I am really digging Denny in the Ben Sherman Golf Collection. The polos have a really cool retro feel that is inspired by original print designs from the Ben Sherman archives.
Martin Laird (Galvin Green & Nike)
Most people know Galvin Green for their waterproofs, as they should (in my opinion they are the best in the biz). However, I feel that too many golfers are missing out on their polos. This Mate Polo is fantastic, but my favorite shirt is the Mills Polo for its small-scale golf ball print on the chest, sleeve, and inside collar. Galvin Green polos tend to have a slimmer fit, so if you are between sizes, I suggest sizing up.
Ben Griffin (Holderness & Bourne & FootJoy)
The sunglasses, the pink pants with a matching belt; Ben Griffin is a stud.
J.T. Poston (Vineyard Vines & FootJoy)
Keep reading for a story about my experience with the Vineyard Vines Palmero Polo that J.T. Poston is wearing in the photo above.
Michael Ruuska (Vineyard Vines & FootJoy)

My favorite Massachusetts brewery is Tree House. A few years ago, they bought the Tewksbury Country Club (a nine-hole, par-33 course that is 2,632 yards from the tips) and reopened it last year along with a completely refurbished clubhouse and expansive tap room. I finally made the trek to check it out last week.
My original plan was to play a midafternoon round on a Monday then stay overnight so my buddy and I could enjoy their pizza and a few IPAs post-round without having to drive the 1.5 hours home.
When packing for the overnight I decided to stick with apparel from brands with Massachusetts roots. I opted for Vineyard Vines Palmero Polo, 8″ Stillwater Performance Shorts, FootJoy Premiere Series Summer Classics (these were released for the 2022 US Open at The Country Club) and topped it off with a hat from that same U.S. Open.

Upon finishing our round, we decided to come back early the next morning and get in another nine before making our drive home. The problem was, I only packed one golf outfit. Sheepishly, I admit that the next day I wore the same clothes. As you’d expect from a July day in New England both days were hot and humid.

I originally packed the Vineyard Vines Palmero Polo because of its subtle branding and reinforced collar with the hidden button to keep it in place. However, the shirt also happens to be made with brrr fabric for immediate and continuous cooling, active wicking, and rapid drying. It has UPF 50 protection and odor-resistant technology (thankfully). Let’s just say that this shirt was the MVP of my trip. As for the course? It might never get the nod for a U.S. Open, but it was the most fun I have had golfing in a long time.
