U.S. OPEN FASHION DIMES & CRIMES: DAY 1

Golf fans turn their lonely eyes to…Robert Rock?! Can DJ still fake the funk on a nasty dunk? Did Rex from Toy Story make an appearance at Pinehurst? Is Xander a Seinfeld fan? All of these questions are left unanswered as we break down the best and worst from Thursday at Pinehurst.

“Where have you gone, *Robert Rock*? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you. Woo, woo, woo.”

Mrs. Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel

Much like “Joltin'” Joe Dimaggio, Robert Rock is the golf fashion hero whose return we’ve been waiting for. His partnership with TrendyGolf is transcendent: U.S. Open visor, G/FORE polo, JL trousers, and FooJoy kicks, has Robert rocking the best look of the day.

I guess if I am going to use words like “hero” and “transcendent” AND reference Joltin’ Joe I should probably talk about Tiger. These guys have two of the most impressive records I can think of; Dimaggio hit in 56 consecutive games in 1941 and the Big Cat holds the record for most consecutive weeks as the World No. 1 at 281 (and has held the number 1 ranking for a total of 679 weeks!). I digress, back to Dime worthy looks, Tiger’s shirt is fantastic. Love this color combination.

Min Woo Lee (Lululemon & FootJoy)

What a great color combination on Min Woo Lee! Here is my recommendation of the day; buy yourself (or someone else) the new Lululemon ShowZero Polo. It is the BEST polo I have worn this season. It is designed to eliminate the appearance of sweat on the outside (I can think of a few golfers who would benefit from this shirt). Unlike the version Min Woo Lee is wearing there is no (easily) visible branding, and the quality is extraordinary. It does run slim, so I suggest sizing up.

Austin Eckroat (Michael Kors & FootJoy)

And the answer to your question is…. Austin is wearing the Two-Tone Italian Woven Herringbone Stretch Leather Belt by Torino Leather Company. You’re welcome. This belt takes a solid kit and elevates it exponentially.

Dustin Johnson (Extracurricular & Nike Golf)

DJ with the J’s. I recall reading once that Dustin could dunk a basketball without a running start. Air Johnson?

Charles Reiter (G/FORE)

I do not know who Charles Reiter is, but I do know that I want a LITFLASK hat. This guy has a vibe.

Nick Taylor (adidas Golf)

This adidas jacquard polo give the illusion of an argyle print, but cooler!

Viktor Hovland (J.Lindeberg & Puma)

Yowzers! This shirt is pretty trippy when you watch Hovland swing.

Ryo Ishikawa (TravisMathew Japan & New Balance)

I love how the TravisMathew signature chest stripes are subtly integrated into this mock neck polo. The Japanese TM apparel is really slick.

Billy Horschel (Ralph Lauren RLX & FootJoy)

Billy’s my boy and is always deserving of a shout out in Dimes. Simple striped polo pops against the white trousers. However, it is the belt and shoe combination that really catches my eye.

Erik van Rooyen (Greyson Clothiers & Ecco)

This is a shirt you need to see close up. It is inspired by the Ditch Plains iconic surf beach. This screams summer fun.

I am not sure if this is good or bad. Regardless, all I could think of every time I saw this shirt was the ‘Dinner Party’ episode of Seinfeld when Jerry eats a black and white cookie, which he extols as a metaphor for racial harmony. The cookie ends up causing Jerry to end his non-vomit streak.

Wait. What? Is that a Toy Story themed Callaway Golf polo?!

FootJoy is my go-to sock. They make great socks. Maybe even the best. AND they make them in black!

This outfit screams, “wear anything except a black belt!”

I cannot imagine a Dimes & Crimes where these silly LIV “uniforms” don’t make it into Crimes. Horrible.

  1. Not a fan of the new tiger brand but I’m pleased to see tiger looking good. We must all bow down to Rocky & billy ho, pure class.

  2. Can’t believe you dimed the Hovland shirt. It’s hideous!
You answered your own question at the end of the Xander review. Looks like he was bisected.
