PGA Championship Fashion Dimes & Crimes: Day 1

Things are looking UP for JT’s homecoming, Viktor’s feeling BLUE, Billy proves he is (once again) Johnny on the Spot, and Ben boasts the best belt in the biz. Tour Editor Michael Ruuska breaks down the best and worst looks from Day 1 at the PGA Championship.

Fashion Dimes

Matt Wallace (J.Lindeberg & FootJoy)

Matt’s outfit is like the smell of fresh laundry in a stale room. The “J.Lindeberg” tuxedo stripe on these trousers adds a tasteful flair whilst the JL Mat Tour Golf Polo brings out the “Mint Julep” colored accents on the outsole of the FootJoy shoes beautifully. If you haven’t already gotten your hands on this year’s FJ x Todd Snyder Golf Shoes, you are in luck. There are still a few sizes available. But hurry!

Need fashion inspiration? Billy-Ho is Johnny on the Spot in his johnny collar.

Justin Thomas (Greyson Clothiers & FootJoy)

JT’s homecoming didn’t disappoint. The arrows on this Greyson Free To Be Polo point in the same direction as his game lately. I predict Thomas shoots up the leaderboard this weekend.

Tiger Woods (Sun Day Red)

I admit, initially I had my doubts. Tiger looks great. His fit is on point.

Ryo Hisatsune (TaylorMade & adidas Golf)

Ryo rocks these Oakley Sutro Lite shades. It has become his signature look to the point where he is almost unrecognizable to me without them.

Jake Knapp (Original Penguin & Nike Golf)

I love this color pairing. The pink Retro Micro Floral Print Golf Polo pops against the gray slacks. Jake’s light gray belt is a nice transition piece which helps create an overall rich look.

Keith Mitchell (Sid Mashburn & FootJoy)

Simple. Cool. Effortless style.

Jason Day (Malbon Golf & PAYNTR)

Debate. Discuss. For me it is simple; “DIME.”

Will Zalatoris (FootJoy)

I’ve decided to host a Kentucky Derby party next year (you are all invited). If you are not sure what to wear under your blazer, consider this FJ Derby Lisle Polo.

Wyndham Clark (Municipal & FootJoy)

Last week I said, when it comes to monochromatic kits, Wyndham Clark is the new sheriff on Tour. I am sticking with that statement. Not since Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson has someone worn it as well.

Ben Griffin (Holderness & Bourne & FootJoy)

Sometimes an accessory can put an outfit over the top. The Holderness & Bourne Oxford & White Fischer Belt does just that! These are the best belts in the biz.

Fashion Crimes

Viktor Hovland

J.Lindeberg always come out swinging with their scripting for Hovland at the majors. Some work. Others fail. I went back and forth on this one. But ultimately, I couldn’t get the vision of a Blue Power Ranger out of my head. I really like the JL Tim Tour Print Pant but wish they had paired a white polo with these pants instead.

Xander Schauffele

It is not that this is bad, it is just…. boring. Admittedly, I am a card-carrying member of the Descente fan club. When I first heard that Xander would be wearing Descente, I was giddy with excitement. The possibilities and potential were endless! So far? Pedestrian.

John Daly

This guy. These pants. He’s a character!

  1. It would be a crime if John Daly didn’t wear those pants. In the exlusive world that he inhabits, those are a definite dime. JDay’s kit is better than others but i’m still not buying the baggy look on his frame.
