I am a marketing and e-commerce professional by day, a husband and father by night and weekends, and a four handicap golfer for a few hours on weekends. I was introduced to the game of golf as a kid by my grandfather. He taught me to respect the game, and dressing appropriately and with a sense of style were two ways to show respect.

I started this blog as a creative outlet and a way to share my passion for the game of golf and the unique style that it has. After an intense day, it is nice to blog about something as superficial as golf apparel.

I am not affiliated with any golf company, organization or retail store. I enjoy finding small, independent companies and sharing their stories and products with others. Many of the forward-thinking designs these days are coming from small companies who are effectively using grass-roots marketing techniques, such as digital and social media, to build their brands.

  7. Hi Greg, keep up the great work, I love reading your posts and reviews of the latest threads on tour. Do you have any tips for golfers with similar physique to the likes of Marc Leishman – what should I wear? I’d wear the same as Billy Horschel if I could carry it off! Thanks.

      Thanks for being a loyal reader. Much appreciated. A few suggestions for you.

      As far as shirts, check out Dunning, G-Mac, TravisMathew, and Linksoul These brands will give you more width in the chest and shoulders. If you like the Ralph Lauren look, try the Polo golf line. The fits are more generous than with the RLX line. Give Greyson’s shirts a look, too. They aren’t super slim. You could also try sizing up on the RLX stuff, if that’s what you like. You can find most of these at Trendygolf >> https://goo.gl/DniX2n. That’s where I shop.

      For pants/shorts, try Dunning’s Players Fit Pants and Shorts. Again, the G-Mac Tech Pant and TravisMathew Hough Pant will give you a modern fit that isn’t skinny. The waist on the G-Mac bottoms runs small, so I recommend everyone sizing up on those. Also, get your pants tailored properly with a short break. Everybody looks taller and slimmer with a short break. It is worth the $12 or so.

      Lastly, try to match your belt to your pants. This draws less attention to your waistline and helps your outfit to blend nicely from top to bottom. Everyone should avoid white belts.

      Thanks for the question. I thought Kisner’s Saturday look was his best of the week. The brand he has been wearing is Dunning. I believe Saturday’s shirt was the Stripe Yarn Dye Jersey Polo.     Thanks for this site. I struggle mightly to find golf polos that are trim but not too trim. Most all golf apparel is oversized imo — Peter Millar, Footjoy, Antigua, Travis Mathew: no shot. Even supposedly more athletic brands seem to oversize — RLX, Dunning, and adidas are brands where a men’s medium should fit me well (6′ 1″; 175) but doesn’t (too wide in shoulders, leading to long sleeves, extra in the waist), and the small is too small. On the other side are brands like J. Lindberg, Boss, etc, which are so trim as to be restrictive. )

    Wondering if you have any recommendations in the sweet spot. I understand fully that everyone is different, both in terms of actual physique and preferences for how clothing fits, so there’s no objective answer here, but maybe a brand I haven’t thought of previously.

      Thanks for reading and for dropping a question. I think finding the proper fit is the most important part of looking good on the course.

      I’m a similar size to you (6′; 175) so I have some of the same struggles. Have you tried Greyson? I find that the fit of a Greyson medium is a little trimmer than RLX, and has a similar style and technical quality. Another suggestion is the Peter Millar Tour Fit. I haven’t tried it myself, but I did check it out at the PGA Show and it had a nice tailored look. According to Peter Millar, it runs about a half size smaller than the regular fit, plus the sleeves are shorter and narrower. Other options are G/FORE, Kjus, and Bonobos. Bonobos offers a slim and standard fit in most of their polos.

      I struggled with the Dunning fit for a while and eventually sized down to a small and it works well for me in polos, but I stuck with the medium on layering pieces. Also, J.Lindeberg has two fits (slim and regular). I’ve had success with a large in the slim fit polos and a medium in the regular. In JL outerwear, I go with a large.

    Thanks a ton. Really helpful, and interesting that we’ve had similar experiences. (I’ve done the same with Dunning — tried small in polos, but stayed with medium in layering pieces. Abandoned their polos because the collar gets tiny.) I will definitely look at some of your suggestions — particularly Greyson, which I haven’t tried — and let you know. (Fwiw, and surprisingly (at least to me) the shirt that has actually worked for me, fit-wise, is Under Armour in medium. Reasonably trim body, reasonably short and trim sleeves. Only issue is quality, feel, and design not quite at the same level as some of the other companies.)

    I started a retail consulting company in the Bay Area, CA . I’ve been buying in this industry since 2010 but I just currently started taking up golf. I’ve always been in the retail side. I’d love to connect I think your page and site is exactly what the PGA is missing. Great Job!

    Question-do you know what line of shirts Ian Poulter is wearing now? I think he no longer has his own line, but like the look of his shirts. Many thanks in advance!-RJ

    1. Hi Rus, Thanks for reading! I’m a big fan of the H&B shirts, too. The fit is perfect. I think Poulter is wearing custom/bespoke clothes. They actually look a lot like his IJP shirts and pants so it may be the same designer/tailor. – Greg
