Just in time for autumn, johnnie-O has launched a website redesign. As I was surfing the new johnnie-o.com I came to the realization that it was time for a wardrobe refresh. One of my favorite things about j-O is the one-stop-shopping; they’ve got me covered from work to workouts, from the first tee to the 19th hole, and for college football game day, baby (not to mention women and kids too)!
These are a few of my favorite things….
As a salute to their new site (and savvy sartorial skills) here are a few September standouts. Whether you’re in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, or Stowe, you’ll want to sing from the mountaintops, “These are a few of my favorite things….”

Griggs Performance 1/4-Zip Performance Pullover
I am a big fan of the throwback athletically styled raglan sleeves on the Griggs. (A raglan sleeve is a sleeve that extends in one piece fully to the collar, leaving a diagonal seam from the underarm to the collarbone.) It is the perfect mélange of old-school athletic performance (think of your little league baseball undershirt) and modern sophistication. The specially designed performance fabric is buttery soft and slightly heavier for those colder mornings.
Momentum Stretch Knit Performance Pant
In Newtonian mechanics, “momentum” is the mass and velocity of an object. If m is an object’s mass and v is its velocity, then the object’s momentum p is: p = mv. What does all that mean? Well, Isaac Newton was wicked smart. And so are these Momentum Pants. If you apply the aforementioned formula, you’ll end up with a pair of super lightweight and ultra-versatile trousers that’ll move like Jagger.
Folsom Rain Jacket
Now, THIS really caught my attention. Johnnie-O is dipping their toes into raingear waters, and they might’ve created the perfect outer layer. The Folsom Rain Jacket has an elevated classic silhouette that will keep you protected from the rain without having you look like the Gorton’s fisherman. This is an everyman-everyday rain jacket made with bonded seams, a drop tail, and a packable hood, so you’ll be prepared for the elements, and styled for the good times that undoubtedly will be coming your way.
The Folsom is the coat you bring on your weekend getaway. It is a filled jacket making it slightly heavier than your typical rain jacket but breathes easily. It has stretch panels on the elbow and shoulders for a greater range of motion (this could be worn on the course as well) and magnetic closures on the front pockets (with a handy dandy cell phone pouch). This was my favorite, check it out.
Culbertson Performance Mixed Media Vest
I love to suck the last bit of marrow out of summer’s bones. I cannot give up my tee-shirts, polos, and shorts until I absolutely have to. Layering a vest over short sleeves is my compromise. Not sure that there is any logic in this, but whatever, it works for me. I will tell you what else works, the Culbertson Performance Mixed Media Vest! The lightweight, insulating performance fabric is light enough to wear for any activity that requires just a little extra warmth and still allows your arms to be free and soak up those last rays of sun! Or just layer it over a polo and 1/4 zip for that October round of golf or scenic hike. Now that seems more logical.
Royce Performance 1/4 Zip Hoodie
What season is it? Hoodie season, yo! The Royce Performance 1/4 Zip Hoodie is made with dri-release®, a state-of-the-art fabric known to have the best moisture-wicking capabilities on the planet thanks to variable sizes of threads that help it to breathe better than anything else out there. If heat or sweat is an issue, this is the hoodie for you. The split tail allows it to fall at the waist creating a casual appearance. My only complaint is that this is only offered in one color!
Suede Range Runner Sneaker
Typically, I am an On Cloud guy for their comfort and speed lacing system. These johnnie-O Suede Range Runner Sneakers rival them in both categories. These shoes have a subtle, low-key styling that gives them the versatility to wear in multiple situations, including on the range or a quick nine after work. I was surprised at how stable these shoes were given the no-tie speed lacing system. These are a real hybrid shoe. I wore them to work the other day and then directly into the city to catch Pearl Jam at Fenway Park. That was a long day on my feet and my dogs never barked. My only bit of advice is to go up a 1/2 size. I did find the toe box to be somewhat snug in my typical size 11.
College Gameday
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to slip into something more comfortable and get ready for Tennessee to beat Oklahoma! Go Vols!!
