U.S. Open Fashion Dimes & Crimes: Day 1

It’s smooth sailing for Billy-Ho, Puma’s thoughtful kicks, DJ is Aces yet again, JT feeds the wolf, and Ryo’s heist-gone-wrong. GolfThreads breaks down the best and worst looks from Thursday at LACC.

Fashion Dimes

Keith Mitchell (Sid Mashburn & FootJoy)

The Vegas odds that Keith Mitchell would be the first “Dime” were something like -10000. These light blue linen trousers are simply elegant. I recently purchased a similar belt and now I need to add a pair of these tabbed-front, wide-cuff pants to wear it with!

Abraham Ancer (Black Quail & FootJoy)

Over the past few years, FootJoy has dominated the headlines with their limited-edition shoe (and apparel) drops for each major. This time they celebrate the past 100 years with a reboot of an iconic shoe style that was laced up by Johnny Miller when he won the U.S. Open 50 years ago. I thought Abraham wore them best.

Max Homa (FootJoy)

Don’t sleep on the apparel from the FootJoy Centennial Collection! This Lisle Polo with its 4-button placket has a vintage vibe with a modern twist that will keep it in style for at least another 100 years.

Dustin Johnson (Extracurricular & FootJoy)

Talk about timeless style! Dustin Johnson always looks “Aces.”

Billy Horschel (Ralph Lauren Golf & FootJoy)

O Captain! My Captain! Billy-Ho owns these sailboat-print trousers. No one, and I mean no one, does pattern-pants better than Skipper Billy.

Wyndham Clark (Municipal & FootJoy)

Clearly, Wyndham Clark has a better eye for fashion than I do. I never would have picked out this Municipal Salmon Tech Camo Polo, but when I saw him wear it with these grey slacks, I loved it! There is a reason he earned a Threadie!

Justin Thomas (Greyson Clothiers & FootJoy)

These Glasseye Pink Montauk Trousers are sophisticatedly bold! And the patent leather on the heel of the FJ x Todd Snyder Premiere Series feeds the black “wolf” polo nicely, wouldn’t you say?

Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)

Puma did a dynamite job on the custom kicks for their players. They partnered with seven artists to create incredibly thoughtful and creative hand-painted shoes for the U.S. Open. Each pair was unique to reflect the players’ individual inspiration for the week.

Kurt Kitayama (Chervo & Boxto Golf)

I just love the center stripe on this Chervo polo, especially on the backswing. It makes for a really cool visual that screams “power” and “grace.”

Joaquín Niemann (Adidas Golf)

Adidas calls this color, Arctic Night. I call it a “Dime.”

Fashion Crimes

Adam Schenk

This busy belt and shirt combination is a no-go for me, bro. Surprisingly, Adam makes this mistake quite often.

Tyrell Hatton

Nope.

Viktor Hovland

Nuh-uh.

Andrew Putnam

This pains me. It really does because Andrew Putnam is a genuinely nice guy. But this fit ain’t so nice.

David Horsey

I cannot tell if this polo is inspired by Jackson Pollock’s “splatter art” or a distant galaxy. Regardless, I wish this shirt would go far, far away.

Ryo Ishikawa

Typically, Ryo is a standout. However, it looks like he broke into Adam Scott’s closet and stepped on a box of melted red, white, and blue popsicles as he high-tailed it out of there.
