Curtis Luck (Callaway)
Australian, Curtis Luck stole the (golf fashion) show at Mayakoba. He wore Callaway Japan’s “Island Dream” line and it immediately caught my eye. Not so much because I loved it, but because it was different. In a sea of Nike lately, I have been craving something that would stir up the waters, so to speak; and Luck certainly gave us some apparel with teeth! With that being said, fashion-wise his choices were somewhere between JAWS and SHARKNADO! The “Island Dream” line was perfect for the Mexican Riviera Maya resort and the “Shark” theme certainly seemed to fit his Australian roots.
Little know shark fact; did you know that of the 26 known shark species, 22 (85%) are found in Australian waters? All 11 of the species known to have caused fatal unprovoked bites on humans can be found in Australian waters. And crucially, Australia’s coastal waters are home to all of the “big three” deadly species: white sharks, tiger sharks, and bull sharks. Hmmm….I may need to rethink my next vacation destination.
Defy Gravity
Danny Lee (Devereux)
For some reason, I always thought that Australia and New Zealand were closer in proximity. Apparently, I was wrong. The shortest distance between the two countries is 2,587 miles across the heavily shark infested Tasman Sea. If Curtis Luck wants to go on holiday to visit Danny Lee of New Zealand, I do NOT recommend that he swim (I’d fly instead). I do recommend Danny Lee’s go-to trouser, the Devereux Gravity pant. I love the look of the black bonded back zipper on these. A modern detail that really makes them stand out from the crowd.
A Whee Bit of Style
Whee Kim (Descente)
Interestingly, I have never donned Callaway Japan or Devereux apparel. Another brand I have never worn is Descente. Yet, every time I see someone in Descente, I think, I need to get my hands on one of their polos. I’ve said it before, and will say it again; I am convinced that I would play better in Descente. They might have the best-looking apparel I have never worn. Whee Kim of South Korea looked sharp in his simple navy and white color block polo.
Veterans Day
Brian Gay (G/FORE)
It started with shoes and moved to apparel. Brian Gay seems to be fully on board with G/FORE and it is paying dividends. I love the Rosebud floral patterned shirt. Notice how the scarlet accent on the collar and cuff match up perfectly with his Gallivanter shoes! Brian’s father was a U.S. Army non-commissioned officer involved in flight operations and was also a member of the All-Army golf team in his spare time. Thank you for your service, Mr. Gay!
Patton Kizzire (FootJoy)
Patton Kizzire wore custom FootJoy Pro/SL with camouflage detailing, which was a nice (fashion) gesture to the men and women who serve our country.
SoCal On My Mind
Luke List (TravisMathew)
Within the past week, Southern California has been rocked by the tragedy of a mass shooting and besieged by raging wildfires. It seems appropriate to finish with something Awesome from the iconic Southern California brand, TravisMathew. Luke List pairing the Racket polo with the Cuater Silvered belt at Mayakoba was AWESOME, baby! Be safe. Peace.
That Luke List belt is incredible. Its amazing how a belt can transform a more subdued kit. What is your favorite go to belt?
Jim, the TravisMathew Cuater belts in general are incredible. I have a few in my rotation, but my go-to belt is probably a blue Vineyard Vines Skull & Crossbones! I just love it and wear it every opportunity I can. This past summer I wore the Puma Ultralite Stretch belts quite often. I think I had four different colors of them. The lightweight, low profile design was great with my golf shorts. Thanks for reading!
Do my eyes deceive me or is that really a shark graphic on a mock neck? Does this signal the triumphant return of the mock neck? It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if so; but I am potentially blacklisted here as an early adopter and supporter of the blade collar. Just kidding. As always love the site and content. Keep it up. Any plans for a Christmas style guide?
