Okay, full disclosure; I am tired and cranky after the Eagles beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl Sunday night. If you’ve come here looking for some positivity, you’ve come to the wrong place, my friend. I am seeing too much green as I sift through the pictures from the Waste Management Phoenix Open and it is quite honestly giving me PTSD. Makes me think of the backup quarterback, Nick Foles and his Eagle brethren carving up New England’s Defense. Time to clear my mind and take out the trash….

Good Green, Bad Green and Ian Poulter
Kevin Streelman looked great in his Johnnie-O seafoam green trousers. A classic, preppy look that almost anyone can pull off. It is not too in your face and it is a great color heading into spring (damn groundhog).
Charley Hoffman; while I appreciate the enthusiasm, sponsorship, and commitment to recycling, I just cannot give you a pass for those slacks. They reminded me of something better suited for the gallery at 16. Let’s get you back in those Greg Norman trousers that have been working so well for you.
I am certain that Ian Poulter could have offered up some fashion advice if Hoffman wanted to slip on a stylish pair of tartans, or at least his fans could have. Ian gave his Instagram followers a chance to pick between pink and lilac polos for Saturday’s round. It was a tie. He went with the pink and it looked fantastic, especially paired with the black pants, belt and shoes.
More Social Media…..
On the topic of social media, Bryson A. DeChambeau did not receive much in the way of positive feedback for his Puma Knit Golf Shirt (I was shocked how many derogatory comments there were). No worries, B.A.D., I loved it. I even feel as though Bryson was making some progress by going to an off-white belt on Sunday.

Rickie Recycles

Rickie continues to take thoughtful approaches to his fashion choices for special events. The latest example of this was his Puma ‘P’ hats on Thursday and Saturday that were made from 100% recycled material–a nice, yet subtle touch to the tournament’s core values. Maybe Charley Hoffman can recycle those pants and they can come back as one of Fowler’s polos in the future.

White Pants, Bad Pants, and Pleats?!

Justin Thomas and his pal, Smylie Kaufman proved that you do not have to wear a white belt with white pants. These looks were sharp!
Phil’s look? Not so much. Not sure what was going on with the pants. Depending on the natural lighting they appeared to have a sheen to them. I understand Phil playing to the crowd and paying tribute to his alma mater, Arizona State, but he would’ve been better off donning an ASU jersey for the 16th hole rather than this visually confusing ensemble.
Some things never change. K.J. Choi continues to wear pleated pants. You be you, K.J. The rest of you should NOT follow his lead unless you are over the age of 60!
Killer Kicks

Bubba and Ricky Barnes both wore some G/FORE shoes with attitude. Righteous shoes. They brought a bit of an edge to the course and looked cool in the process.

There are so many great golf shoe options these days. FootJoy allows you to customize your kicks with their MyJoys option. Have some fun and treat yourself by creating your own shoes through the MyJoys program. It can go a long way towards making you look as good as Billy Horschel and Justin Thomas do in their footwear.
Champions….

This has been a cathartic experience. I am starting to feel better about Tom Brady not getting his sixth Super Bowl ring. It also helps that the winner in Phoenix wasn’t wearing green! Congratulations to Gary Woodland on getting his third career win. (The same number of touchdowns that the backup quarterback, Nick Foles, threw against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Aagghh……)
Wonderful writeup, just top notch. Streelman’s pants were awesome and I really liked JT’s brown look. How does BillyHo always look superb? I don’t know how Bubba does it but he always looks terrible. You would think Angie would help him out in coordinating a little. Mike – Do you like seeing more and more brown belts on tour? It is kind of a throwback when the only option was brown or black but it almost feels new again.
Jim, BillyHo has such a great eye for fashion (being tall and fit doesn’t hurt either) and is OK with pushing the envelope a bit but never wearing anything tacky. He is deserving of all the praise he gets and is a great match for Ralph Lauren. His upcoming collaboration with RLX is sweet! Love the brown belts I am seeing on tour this season. I agree it is kind of a throwback. Ricky Barnes in the photo above, wears a slightly oversized brown belt and G/FORE shoes that complimented each other perfectly (and IMHO the centerpieces of his outfit). That pairing really stood out to me as classically casual and very versatile. JT rocks a fantastic brown dressy-belt that really pulled the shirt and pants together. Great stuff.
