If there was a sartorial theme for Round 3 at Augusta, it was ‘Redemption,’ and Exhibit A was Adam Scott. The 2013 Masters Champ ended up on the wrong side of this list in Round 1 with that all-khaki safari getup, but today was vintage Scott. The classic colors, basic styles, and clean button-down collar are more of what we expect from a guy who has been one of the best dressed players for years.
Thomas Pieters (Nike Golf)
The young Belgian had a nice rebound effort, as well. The simple black and white kit was just what the style doctor ordered. Nike typically cranks out very athletic looks, but this was a nice change of pace. The tipping on the collar and banded sleeves gave this outfit a timeless aesthetic.
Soren Kjeldsen (Puma Golf)
Kjeldsen must have been on the same wavelength as Pieters, as he teed it up in a similar look from Puma. Fowler is obviously the lead guy at Puma, but Kjeldsen wears the brand’s modern looks exceptionally well, too.
Rickie Fowler (Puma Golf)
Speaking of Fowler, it was another solid day in the fashion department for Rickie. His look wasn’t quite as clean as the one we saw on Friday, but I was impressed that he opted for the tonal belt. In years past, it would have been a white belt all the way. I know Fowler loves his signature orange, but he looks fantastic in these vibrant blues.

We talked in our Dimes & Crimes for Day 1 about how Jimmy Walker added a pop of color to his wardrobe and he was back at it again on Saturday. The combo of the mint green shirt, Augusta green belt, and white 5-pocket pants made for a fresh and modern look. I just wish we saw this much color from JW the other weeks of the year.
Rory McIlroy (Nike Golf)
Rory flipped the script and it was the right move. He was scheduled to wear orange shoes to match the orange pants, but instead, he laced up white shoes. Sometimes players know better than designers, and this was one of those times. The white kicks with the white top framed the colorful pants and allowed them to be the focal point of the outfit.
Charl Schwartzel (Kjus)
This was my favorite outerwear piece of the day. That Matteo Jacket from Kjus brought a modern and athletic vibe to Schwartzel’s look and served as another example of why mid layers > base layers.
Martin Kaymer (Hugo Boss Green)
Here’s a great example of why fit is so important. Kaymer and Hideki Matsuyama are essentially wearing the same outfit. Kaymer looks cleaner and neater because the fit of his shirt is on point. The shoulder seams and sleeves on Kaymer’s polo hit at the correct spots, while Hideki’s sleeves are down to his elbows and hang off his shoulders. Details like this separate the best dressed guys from the pack.

I loved the pink color blocking at the shoulders. I loved the navy blue trim on the sleeves and the matching pants. On the flip side, the ombre fade felt very 2015 and the straight-leg pants felt very 2010.

Our ‘White Belt Victim of the Day’ is Bernd Wiesberger. A braided dark grey or black belt would have gone a long way in improving this look.

As I mentioned yesterday, Phil Mickelson has been sporting G/FORE’s Gallivanter shoes. He made the switch at the WGC Match Play a couple of weeks ago, and on Saturday he wore a semi brogue style that is the result of a collaboration between G/FORE and Peter Millar. I first told you about this shoe at the PGA Merchandise Show in January. Look for it to be available in July. The line starts behind me.
Another new shoe flying under the radar this week is the Nike Air Zoom TW71 that Jason Day has been wearing. Part of Nike’s Tiger Woods line, the Air Zoom TW71 is the best looking Tiger Woods shoe we have seen. It is a far cry from those TW17s with the double Velcro straps that Tiger started wearing at the Hero World Challenge last year. Right now, the Air Zoom TW71 is available in a white/pure platinum/black colorway. Day, though, has been wearing personal (custom) editions of the shoe including a version in the second round at Augusta with an anodized Swoosh that changed colors and an iridescent sole.
On Sunday, Jordan Spieth will wear a polo and pant fabricated from Under Armour’s new Threadborne technology. Under Armour claims the new Threadborne collection allows athletes to train harder by providing paramount mobility, moisture management, and breathability. The fabric, which has become a key component in the brand’s training collection, dries fast, won’t cling, won’t chafe and stretches without absorbing sweat. We’ll see how it performs for Jordan when the heat is on in the final round.
Embed from Getty ImagesI received a few questions about Charley Hoffman’s apparel this week. After wearing TravisMathew for a of period time, Hoffman started wearing Linksoul polos during the Florida swing. There hasn’t been an official announcement from Hoffman or Linksoul.
Greg, the comparison between hideki and kaymer was perfect. And you had the pics to accompany it. Sergio also had a patterned braided belt on. It was too much. One flashy piece at a time…from the right year.
Great point about the belt, Jim. Less is more. Sergio has always struggled with that. Enjoy the final round.
“GoFundMe” was brilliant. I would be in but I am saving up for those G/FORE Gallivanter shoes (I am a high school guidance counselor–nuff ced). I love Justin Rose’s game but his fashion sense has always lacked. He should hire you Greg (or me) to “guide” him. Otherwise it is only a matter of time before he is wearing “5 Hour Energy” logos on his cap. Back to watching he and Sergio battle it out….
The G/FORE Gallivanters are a better investment. We can probably tag team the J-Ro styling. I say we start with the shades and soccer shoes and then take on the belts and apparel. 5 Hour Energy logos should be an automatic 2 stroke penalty.
