Brash with Class: Rickie Fowler Wins The Players Championship in Puma Golf

Haters gonna hate. Players gonna play. Overrated?! LOL!

Just days after being named one of the most overrated players by his (anonymous) peers, Rickie Fowler gave a figurative one finger salute to his critics by capturing The Player Championship with a clutch run of birdies and eagles on the final nine holes and in a playoff. The only thing missing was a Patrick Reed-like ‘shhhhh’ and declaration of being a top five player. Of course, Rickie has way too much class for any of that and took the high road throughout the week and after his victory. In the end, the only brash things about Fowler are his game and his apparel (and even the latter is becoming more refined).

From a style standpoint, there were a few things to note from Rickie’s victory march at TPC Sawgrass. The first, and most obvious, was the fact that Fowler traded his signature Sunday orange for Sunday pink (errr magenta) in honor of Mother’s Day. What’s next, Tiger teeing it up on Sunday at the U.S. Open in a green shirt and white pants?

Speaking of shirts, Rickie wore a variety of polos from Puma Golf’s SS15 Collection that featured the brand’s strong blue and peacoat blue colors with pops of green and pink. While it was easy to get caught up in the aggressive stripes on the front of Fowler’s Sunday polo, what grabbed my attention was the back. Puma Golf engineered the sleeves and the back of the GT Glitch Stripe Polo to allow for a greater range of motion. Also, all of Puma’s polos for 2015 have more width through the chest and slightly longer sleeves for an improved fit and great playability.

Fowler paired his polos with Puma Golf’s 6-pocket style pants throughout the tourney. These 5- and 6-pocket styles have become a huge trend on Tour as more casual looks have crept into the game. They are a perfect fit for Rickie’s cool style, and you should consider adding a pair or two to your on-course wardrobe this season.

Fowler has always been a trendsetter in the area of headwear, and we saw a variety of hats from him over the four days — the best of which was a new 5-panel design that he sported on Saturday. These 5-panel hats have been all the rage in menswear over the past few years, and the one Fowler rocked was a fresh departure from the flat-bills he’s been wearing. Expect to see more brands jumping on this trend in the coming seasons.

Rickie completed his looks every day with Puma Golf’s TITANTOUR shoe, including a custom pink colorway on Sunday. In developing the TITANTOUR, Puma Golf partnered with Outlast Technologies® to incorporate its Certified Space Technology® into the insole of the shoe to cool the foot in warm temperatures. It certainly seems to have worked, as Fowler appeared to be cool in more ways than one at The Players Championship.

Here’s a complete breakdown of Rickie Fowler’s apparel from The Players Championship.
