Devereux Launches Its Fall 2014 Collection; Introduces Its Spring 2015 Collection
It is difficult to believe that Devereux’s debut collection launched in spring 2014. It usually takes some time for new brands to build a following, but Devereux grabbed the attention of those covering golf fashion right out of the gate thanks to its clean aesthetics and modern fits. Its initial collection wasn’t just critically acclaimed, but it was also stocked by some of the most exclusive clubs, luxury resorts and fashion-focused retailers, like Fairway Styles. In an era of over-caffienated colors, Devereux’s ‘Proper Threads’ have separated the brand from the neon noise that has invaded the fairways.
Fall 2014 Collection
As great as Devereux’s debut collection was, I always thought its follow up collections would say a lot about the brand. I’m happy to say that Devereux’s Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 Collections have built on the success of its debut collection. If you are looking for a one hit wonder or a sophomore slump, you better look somewhere else.
Yes, Devereux has it going on. Its appropriately named ‘Proper Collection’ for Fall 2014, launched just days before the PGA Fashion & Demo Show in Las Vegas last month and created a ton of buzz. Co-Founder and Creative Director Robert Brunner turned to 1950s and 1960s Miami for inspiration for this collection. His vision was to capture the mood of the city during that period with a rich palette of fun-loving and dark colors, like evergreen, navy and claret. Toss in some monochromatic looks and Robert has succeeded in recreating the vintage vibe of The Magic City.
I’m pleased to see that Brunner polo (one of Devereux’s essential pieces) remains in the Fall 2014 Collection in some new colors. It has been one of my go-to shirts this year. The thin four-button placket, short button-down collar and the signature Devereux chest pocket offers a vintage look, modern fit and contemporary detailing.
In addition to the Brunner polo, the Joseph with its long contrasting placket, the European-inspired Oliver and the casual, yet chic Jahan are among my favorites. All of Devereux’s polos are fabricated from a soft pima cotton blend that performs as well as it looks.
What I’m most excited about, though, is that Devereux has extended its product line for fall with the sleek-looking Prescott pants. The Prescotts feature a modern straight fit and Devereux’s signature design on the rear pockets. These pants are designed to be as functional as they are stylish. They are on my must-try list for the season — especially in the claret color. Although, the steel and graphite colors look great, too.
Spring 2015 Collection
Devereux also made waves at the PGA Fashion & Demo Show with its nautically inspired Christina O Collection for spring 2015. Fittingly named after Aristotle O’Nassiss’ yacht, the Christina O Collection will possess a sophisticated Mediterranean palette that is light and airy for the season. Colors like pebble, apricot, sage and navy will be showcased in contemporary silhouettes with eye-catching wave motifs, hidden button-down collars and edgy chest pocket designs. Also, look for a blazer from Devereux in the spring, which will make transitions from the course to the cube or the chef’s table easy and fashionable.
I have had the chance to talk with Robert Brunner several times this year and have walked away totally impressed every time. Most recently, he sat on one of the Designer Discussion Panels that I moderated for the Association of Golf Merchandisers at the PGA Show in Las Vegas. His design philosophy really jives with where I’m at with golf apparel these days — clean designs inspired by the Golden Era of golf with contemporary cuts and subtle details.
I’m looking forward to catching up with Robert and his brother Will at the PGA Merchandise Show in January to see what Devereux has in store for next fall.
