Nike Golf to debut fresh designs at Open Championship

Cool, wet and blustery conditions are what we have come to expect at the Open Championship and Nike Golf plans to protect its athletes at Royal Liverpool with new outerwear designs featuring wool and engineered knit fabrics.

Every piece of apparel – from polos to sweaters to cover-ups – is made for easy layering and built to move with the athlete’s body. We’ve armed our athletes with some of Nike Golf’s newest and most innovative pieces from the Fall 2014 collection to keep them warm and comfortable no matter what each round brings.” — Merritt Richardson, VP of Global Golf Apparel and Footwear.

Apparently, Tiger Woods had is ol’ sketchpad out while recovering from back surgery and he designed a new sweater for Nike Golf. OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but his ‘insights’ are said to have inspired the sleeve design for his new TW Engineered Sweater. The sleeves trap body heat while allowing for a maximum range of motion. Bravo, Tiger!

Paul Casey, Charl Schwartzel and Nick Watney must like Tiger’s design skills, as they will sport Nike’s new 3-D V-Neck Sweater that borrows the same sleeve design as the TW Engineered Sweater.

Rory McIlroy liked Nike’s new Hypervis Half-zip Cover-up so much that he couldn’t wait for the Open Championship to arrive. He wore it during the final round of the Scottish Open the other day. The Hypervis is fabricated from a Therma-FIT fleece and has strategically-placed ventilation. A range of vibrant colors like pinks, yellows and blues burst through the ventilated areas for some added pop.
